RC Cola has faced some unfortunate setbacks. They've never been able to catch up to Coke or Pepsi, and this video talks about why.
VIDEO HERE (11:10 minutes)

Back about a million years ago when I drank soft drinks, Royal Crown was my soda of choice. I tried one a few months back and gagged on it, but that's pretty much my reaction to any soft drink any more.
I didn't do soda for years. In the last couple years I've been drinking A&W root beer on occasion. They come in a small bottle now. My main beverage besides coffee is white grape juice and I dilute that fifty/fifty with water.
ReplyDeleteThat's my reaction as well to soda WC. I haven't had any for 50 years, just way too sweet. People buy it like crazy, it's fuckin' poison.
ReplyDeleteRC Cola (in a glass bottle) and a Moon Pie was a thing when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteYes Sir... still is... and it's pronounced R-O-C Cola.(yes I know it's redundant)
DeleteYessir! First thing I would buy on Saturday with my .75 per hour salary.
DeleteI'll take an RC first if they have it

Nah, i used to love RC Cola (90's) and picked some up last year and it tasted like poo. They changed something it was terrible. won't make that mistake again
ReplyDeleteI remember pouring a pack of peanuts into my ROC Cola. Southern childhood tradition.
ReplyDeletebag of peanuts in a Dr. Pepper was my treat...
DeleteIt made me switch to Crown Royal instead.

Back in the 60’s, RC Cola was a mnemonic for matrix multiplication: rows into columns.
ReplyDeleteI still drink it. Have for 35 yrs. It now costs about the same as coke and Pepsi.
ReplyDeleteWhat's good enough for other folks ain't good enough for me and my RC!
ReplyDeleteTried the new Pepsi Zero Sugar. 0 cals and doesn't hurt my Diabeetus. Doesn't taste metallic like Diet Pepsi. Still 1 can max a day. YMMV
ReplyDelete1981 - middle school - my favorite soda. good memories!
ReplyDeleteDon’t drink soda much at all anymore. If I have to brag root beer or sprite are the only ones I get
ReplyDeleteBack in the day I would drink an RC if I couldn't get Coke or Pepsi. It's taste was kinda in between Coke and Pepsi, but it had a little aftertaste I wasn't fond of.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in NC they had a soda pop called "Cheerwine". Wasn't half bad.
Since 1985, when I switched to Diet Coke from Coke, I had always had at least one per day. I would drink Diet Coke instead of coffee as I can't really stand it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as of a couple months ago when the price skyrocketed, I said fuck it, and started drinking water with my breakfast. I don't miss that woke crap at all.
Like most here I don't drink pop, soda or whatever any more. Maybe a swig of the kid's, when she meanders through, is enough to remind me why I'm a hot tea drinker.
ReplyDeleteRC was what I drank back in the early 70s. Still do sometimes when I see it.
ReplyDeleteI have one RC a day in my lunch box along with what ever else i tossed into it . Used to drink a Coke now and then till they went woke.Nice cold water is the best though
ReplyDeleteI remember listening to some business program about RC in the ‘90s. Notice the video only talked about America and the rights to sell in America? In the 90s RC got a monopoly to be the only soda sold in one of China’s Provences-population 300 million. Don’t know how they’re doing now, but it seemed to me why they dropped out of the market.

I keep a few IBC root beers around and will have one every couple of months or so. Real cane sugar, not corn syrup. Other than that, coffee and water almost exclusively. The IBC's were not available for quite some time due to the rona and have only just recently made a comeback. Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteCoffee and Chaga mix for my wake up drink....

Anyone remember Double Cola? we used to get it a boy scout camp circa 1975
ReplyDeleteDo not think RC has changed as far as I can tell from those that liked it to not liking it now as it is probably more your taste has changed over the years.
ReplyDeleteIn my HS years there was a budget soda that came out called "Bubba" cola. My HS nickname was bubba so as soon as someone discovered it, I had everyone I knew bringing me a can of it for a while, and I rarely drank soda, even then.
Semi local to me is a company called Orca Beverage that has licensed or whatever they needed to do to make a huge number of the defunct or otherwise not common sodas of times back. They do a good job at it if your looking for a piece of soda history to retry, and last i checked, if the original was made with sugar and not corn syrup, thats how they rolled.
I used to drink Mountain Dew. I switched to diet Dew, and tried to take in as few calories by liquid as possible, in the winter of 2020. I made no other switch, no diet, no exercise. I lost 20 pounds.
ReplyDeleteI will never be thin, the only way I kept my weight in check in high school was that I was an athlete and I worked my ass off all year long. I will be 62 later this month, and my body hurts all the time, so I just cannot do the things that I used to do. I walk, and not miles, but enough.
Those little changes make a big difference, though.
Late but maybe you can do a post about this place. Route 66 stop in Oklahoma. Good place and good burgers. https://pops66.com/
