It’s venting and burning off as it was designed. Now it’s leaking and could cause an explosion from a boat or other ignition source. Should have set it upright and let it burn off slowly.
I'll remember this trick if my own propane tanks catch fire; although the best I can do is a kiddie pool.
Balls of steel. Yes, I know the tank "shouldn't" explode unless pressure builds faster than the valves can release it but it's better to not tempt death.
Hard to believe that the same species that devised the clever machine that covers a tennis ball at production speed also spawns dumb-ass attention whores such as the Bantu on the motorbike and the twerking twat who dashed in front of the drag racer. I'd rather take my chances with the head-butting bison.

1990, I'm in a Statics class. The ASCE was selling a "F=ma : It's not just a good idea, it's the Law" t-shirt. I bought one, it might even still exist in some box of mine.

DeleteThey won't explode in that situation. There isn't enough oxygen inside to feed it unless the tank was improperly purged.
DeleteIt won't blow unless the tank gets hot enough to raise the pressure of the propane above the tanks limit. After that , you have a mini bleavie.
