Why I carry a gun, even on my own property

BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Pete Souphom was shot and killed on the farm he poured 20 years into and hoped to one day pass on to his children.

“Pete wanted to build something, build this farm and have something to leave behind. Obviously, this was not his plan, but he wanted to be able to leave behind and show his kids the work ethic that it takes to be successful,” said Josh Anderson with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

  1. Although I live pretty much out in the sticks you still have the drug addicted and mentally impaired types out drinking and doping looking for trouble . The closer to the road I mow the higher my situational awareness is . I usually pack my Ruger P90 because it only takes one .45 to make an impression . Yeah! I'm an old school boomer

    1. A few months ago a resident here came home and caught some tweaker cleaning out his shed, he held the asshole at gunpoint for 30 minutes while waiting for the deputies. He was also smart enough to stay on the phone with the dispatcher and describe his own appearance so he wouldn't get shot. Smart guy. I have acreage and am never unarmed while out on it.

  2. After years of evidence, like the example of Mr. Souphorn, I am uncomfortable when I am unarmed, and I follow the advice to avoid crowds and am generally unsociable.

  3. Purchase a weapon,
    Learn to use it,
    Carry it always,
    Shoot to kill!

  4. So yesterday, early evening, I was out walking the dogs when I noticed a white car with 4 people in it. That little tickle, that tiny alarm that goes off in your head (or should, if you have any street sense at all) started going off. I kept my eye on them as they drove off. Not staring, but keeping an awareness. Couple of minutes later, they drive by me. Now I'm in an area where visibility is limited, and I'm looking for cover and getting ready to pull if necessary. They turned around, came back by, actively checking me out. This happened once more. By now I have the plan worked out, and it involves alot of unpleasantness and delivery of 148 grs of happiness. Fortunately, they didn't return. Now I leave in a small town, in a rural area, and while crime wasn't unknown here, it certainly wasn't common. But this plague is certainly spreading. Keep your eyes open folks.

  5. That is just f'd up. Did a little digging. Vietnamese? One posting said war immigrant.
Option 1. Entirely random. Another internet note says possible headshot. So, some teenagers driving by, decided to put a .22 round over head 'for fun', and misjudged aim?
Option 2. Deliberate. Hard to believe 20 years established and something in his past caught up. If so, someone has a long memory. Long established locals knew him, but someone just recently moved in, and didn't like some 'furriner' getting by and succeeding where they were stuck in a leaking trailer?
Seemed like a good guy - damned shame.
Peaceful suburb now for me, but still carry, even when walking dog.

    1. First place to look is at who buys the property. I' ve had several go 'rounds with a local scallywag who wanted my place cheap. Greedy old fuck died a few years back, otherwise he' d be causing problems now.

  6. I carry often when I am mowing my rural property, somehow the feral dogs can sense that I am not prey. If I don't carry I have had Pitbull and German Shepard dogs actively harassing me while on the mower. In my experience even 2 legged predators can pick up on the vibe you give off when armed.

  7. Not enough info on this one. It’s possible he was shot from a distance never knowing what hit him. Being armed would have no benefits in that case. Still it’s seems prudent to be armed at all times these days.

  8. I have no cell service, unless the internet is on (always iffy), and no lectric other than batts & solar (minimal). I asked a deputy awhile back about their response time to my location, They repied it was dependent upon the time of day and if there was even an officer in the area. Rousting one from another corner of the county or late at night, it could be as long as 1-1/2 hrs to my obituary would appear in the "weekly" paper first. And thats being a conservative estimate. In short, they said, you be on your own. No worries, I got shovels.

  9. If I'm awake and dressed, I'm carrying. I live in a decent area overall, but we've had at least three jome invasions, a murder, and a sexual assault that I know of.

Also assaulted one day taking out the trash. Perp saw the sidearm (I did not pull it) and decided he had other places to be. A witness backed my story when the cops came after my 911 call.

  11. Kinda pointless for the "authorities" to ask for tips 8 MONTHS after it happened...

  12. It's a requirement to be armed all the time and these days; level 2 or 3 armor isn't out of the question.
