You assholes! I just renewed my truck registration this morning!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Under a new state law, the Tennessee General Assembly has waived state registration fees for Class A and Class B motor vehicles for renewals after July 1 and before June 30, 2023.

*****

Fucking 96 bucks and I couldn't hold off because it was due June 30th. I could've bought 2 gallons of gas and a can of Copenhagen with that 17 bucks I would've saved.
Not only that, but they wouldn't let me keep my old tags, they had to issue me a new blue one like the one pictured in the link. I admit though that I was thinking about getting a 'Cold War Veteran' specialty plate which basically signifies nothing more than "I Came, I Partied, I Went Home".

  1. Sort of like married draftees back in the '60s who heard the day after taking the oath that selective service had stopped drafting married men. Well, maybe not altogether like that.

Had on genius remark that they "spilled the spot of blue ink in the red". I replied "Yeah, maybe I'll send it back" and walked off. That said, there are still folks around who get it.

    1. I've still got a One Mark East German coin a German friend gave me. It's made of aluminum. I've also got a set of orders that were cut to allow me to travel through East Germany on a military train to go to Berlin when I was in the Boy Scouts in 1974.

    2. I have one that says "Cold War Veteran" with a submariner dolphin insignia below it. Most people around here have not a clue.

  4. In Germany we get one set of licence plate (and you can keep them as long as you own that car and even transfer them to your new car. But if you have a Nazi licence plate containing Nazi codes like 14, 88 etc you have to change your plates on your own costs. Not that any of them are anymore issued.) and pay to the state to register a car.
And every two years you have to get a certificate that says your car is safe and a mechanic of the TÜV has to look at your car.

I paid about EUR 200 for the registration and every two years its another EUR 200 for the TÜV.
Yes, it is based on your car and as I am very tall I need a car where the inner area is big and has lots of room for my long legs. So, I need a big car and so I have to pay the big fees.

  5. I tell people I was a real killer when I was stationed in Germany during the 80's. I killed a couple million brain cells and mowed down thousands of German beers.

  6. You get one at the apple per car. Yours happens to be next year. You still get it.

  7. Count your blessings. If you were still in California you could have bought either two gallons of gas or a can of Copenhagen for $17, not both.
    Hope this helps.

  8. You're killing me. $96 for the truck? The People's Socialist State of Connecticut just slammed me $120 for my HD. Included in that fee was the charge for the state parks, in case I wanted to hang out with the hippies and homeless...or am I repeating myself.

  9. Well, Im-a gonna tell you guys something, and I mean it sincerely. Wirecutter has heard this from me before. I had the great, good privilege of going to Viet Nam (yeah, so what) and ever since have heard guys who got sent to Germany or whatever excuse their time as having "missed" Viet Nam. What I have to tell you is, if the Russians had ever decided to come thru the Fulda Gap, those of you who would have been there at the time would have made up for whatever you "missed" and then some. In my view, the only reason the Russians did not is because you people were standing in their way. And yes, including the nuke people too. They also serve, who stand at the wall and wait, and NOBODY will dismiss lightly or dishonor your service standing at that wall if I'm around to hear about it.

  11. I will have to renew in July or August. Most of the fee in our county is a county based "wheel tax", paid in lieu of property tax. I will let you know if I have to pay that or not. I am guessing that I will have tp pay it.
