  1. Well I've never been stabbed in the chest with a catfish Barb but I've had him in my hands and my feet and they are painful

  2. My brothers and I are very competitive. We have gone our separate ways since we grew up, but we get together when we can. Several years ago, we decided to go fish for cats in the pond our grandfather built for Grandma Elvie, who loved to fish. She taught us all how "to do it right:" when that bobber goes under, you yank that pole and set the hook, or he'll spit it out. You learned to not fish on her right side, as you were likely to get whacked in the head by her cane pole when she got a bite.

We had two rod and reel set ups and two bamboo cane poles cut from our own cane break. Of course we were betting. I was fishing between Bob and Joe with one of the cane poles when I got a hit. I bellowed "FIRST FISH!" and not wanting to slap either of my brothers in the face, yanked straight up on the cane. The pound, pound-and-a-half catfish exploded out of the water, spinning on the end of the line, and slapped into my thigh back first. It buried the spine as deep as it would go, and I'm standing there looking at this wriggling fish stuck to my leg while my brothers are rolling around on the bank laughing at me.

But I won three dollars on the bet...
