Police say that Brennan Patrick Doyle's operation trafficked stolen converters in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Texas and New York. Doyle is one of 14 people facing indictments so far in an operation that police had been monitoring since March. Doyle alone was hit with 72 charges that include money laundering, aggravated theft and racketeering.
The 44,000 converters had an estimated street value exceeding $22 million, according to the Associated Press:

For 44,000 cataclysmic perverters to be worth $22 Millyun DawLurs, they would have to average $500.00 bucks apiece.
ReplyDeleteI looked them up and out of two pages of advertising I didn't find one that cost five hundred dollars. Some were around a hundred, the two to three hundred bucks units were most common.
IOW, they didn't even look to see if their claims were even possible.
They said that was the street value which leaves me confused. Now, if I was in the need of a catalytic converter I wouldn't look for a back door deal, I would go down to NAPA and get me a brand new one.

From what I've been told by my muffler shop tenant, some import convertors go for nearly 1k. Those are few and far between though. Replacement price on those ( dealer only, parts only, no labor ) are in the 3k range.
DeleteLike with drugs, they always round up. The cats on my truck cost about 1500 for the pair to replace, not counting my labor.
DeleteDaryl, they're talking street value of the precious metals in them, not resale.
Delete44,000 personal "pain in the ass" days for the people who lost them.
ReplyDeleteI like the comment: "Silencers should be required on reciprocating saws. I hate waking up to all that noise."
ReplyDeleteNot going to look for it, but that's funny. Shithead who "said" it best be a bicycle rider, though...
