Dinner on the road

SANFORD, Fla. – Thursday’s morning commute ruffled some feathers for some Central Florida drivers.

A tractor-trailer carrying 10,000 frozen turkeys caught fire at 4:40 a.m. on I-4 west near Sanford, causing slowdowns in the area.

  1. 10,000 turkeys….???
The average T-Day Turkey is 12-20 lbs…..Don’t really think the truck was loaded with 150-160,000 lbs of turkeys…..
Gross allowed weight for normal 18 wheeler traffic is what…80,000 lbs…?

    1. Good question. The picture of the burnt trailer looks like wasn't 1/3 full (still see turkeys clearly, not burnt to bad).

      Clearly doesn't add up.

  2. Note also the difference between the phrases "caught fire" and (more likely?) "was set on fire" - more food supply disruption? That many turkeys was way more than one trailer load. When did you last see turkey in the supermarket?

  3. More Florida idiocy. Don't they know you are supposed to THAW the turkeys before you cook them?
