For those of us who love dogs.....you can leave us with this! The ones you usually leave us with are lots of trouble and very expensive to keep up! So sorry for your loss.......Mike
WTH? Is that nail polish and a bow? Now how on God's green earth did a country bumpkin like you think that was a good idea? Let me guess. Did you push her around in a stroller and dress her in ballerina outfits? I know she was too big for a purse, so we couldn't accuse you of being Paris Hilton. /
Well, that asshole dog Jack, that pit/hound mix you see in the video showed up a year before CharlieGodammit died and 2 years before Legal Lucy lost her last fight. So he's helped me through two of them.
It's been almost seven years since my little girl passed on and I still miss her terribly. Sweetest dog I have ever had. I know another dog would fill the hole in my heart but I can't deal with losing another one.
Lost several damned good German shepherds in the past. They make you laugh a million times and cry once. Know your pain. That's why I keep my head out of "the past". Don't allow myself to think about it.
As much as you miss them, at least give yourself the satisfaction you deserve as the man that provided them with a rich and happy life, a warm home and regular meals, and the love & acceptance of a good family 'pack'. That's very much to your credit, man.
R.I.P. Lucy. They never leave us because they will always be in our hearts. Hurts like hell but to love them while they are here is worth it. They bring us a lot of joy.
Amen brother, no pain like it...:-( Someone sent me this today... Brought a tear to my eye... "Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. And just before he died; he licked the tears off my face".
This is precisely why I won't have another dog of my own. I love them too damned much, and they just go and die on you. I still mourn Max, the best buddy I ever had, who did me the supreme kindness of simply disappearing one night, a month after we moved, rather than making me watch him grow old and die.
We inherited him in a divorce settlement, and for four years he was my constant companion. But he knew his days were numbered. And he took himself away one night after we relocated. How 115 pounds of Rotty-Shepherd can simply vanish into thin air I just don't know. But I thank him every time I think of him for sparing me the searing agony of watching him go.
23? That's awesome and you should be proud to have taken such good care of a cat for that long. I always tell clients not to be sad but thankful that you had that much time with a pet. My job is really tough when a 2, 3 or 4 year old pet has to be euthanized. No one expects that. My 14 year old yorkie is on borrowed time and when I lose him, I'll have a short sniffle but will think of the great life he had and great dog he was (he taught me that tiny dogs can be classified as "real" dogs) and then get another. One should remember, pet ownership is a short term rental/lease. Make the most of it while you can, but don't let the loss tear you up too much. There's plenty of others available that can fill the void. (I'll get off my soap box. Today was a day with 3 euthanasias and the one last night at closing means 4 in 14 hours. That's a lot, even for my line of work. But they all had great owners and great lives so no sadness).
i've had to do it twice and it was HARD. both times. a LOT harder than i thought it would be. i still think about them every now and then and hope to see them again. so i feel your pain, and you have my sympathy.
Kenny, we who have had to put a beloved dog down, feel your pain. But I do thank God for the gift of the dogs I've had in my life. They show us what unconditional love looks like.
I am truly sorry for your loss. I know how that hurt doesn't seem to go away. I just wanted to wish you the best and hope your sadness eases up a little.

ReplyDeleteThanks. Like I said, I still miss the hell out her.
DeleteWell, that drew me up short.
ReplyDeleteAlways had a soft spot for that girl.
With the way you wrote about her, and the photos, it came easily.
Yeah, she was a real sweetheart and a great dog.
DeleteDogs are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI've had to say goodbye to lots of my furry companions over the years Ken, but as long as you have good memories Lucky will live on.

ReplyDeleteI am NOT wearing a bow and pink nail polish. I prefer burgundy.
DeleteIf she is, that means I just picked her up from the groomers.
only time can fill the hole. another dog that's in need can help sometimes.

DeleteDogs and beer (and good whiskey). Absolute proof that God loves us.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like she was a happy girl. I still miss mine that have passed, but it helps knowing they were loved. They don't ask for much more than that.
ReplyDeleteWe feel your pain. Makes me smile to think of the joy Legal Lucy gave you folks..

ReplyDeleteanybody that says, "it's just a dog" just flat don't get it. i sure miss all of mine.
DeleteMr. Frank- it took me 2 years for the same reason. It helps to get one.

ReplyDeleteWhat a cutey. So sorry. Time will heal a little.
ReplyDeleteShe sure sounded like she was a good girl.
ReplyDeleteYup, she was my little girl dog. I never considered myself to be a little dog person, but I've owned two and adored both of them.
DeleteGod bless you buddy, you're not alone....I miss my pooch (several, but at different times)....I pray we get to meet up again. Prayers!
ReplyDeleteIsn't funny that we can remember our dogs names and forget names of some people that have passed?
ReplyDeleteAs much as you miss them, at least give yourself the satisfaction you deserve as the man that provided them with a rich and happy life, a warm home and regular meals, and the love & acceptance of a good family 'pack'. That's very much to your credit, man.
ReplyDeleteSorry Kenny. I know how you feel.

Great picture of Lucy and Charlie in the green grass and wildflowers on their morning sniff. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was holding my own until the picture with CGD. That just tore me up. Always enjoy your stories of them and I guess we all miss them too.
ReplyDeleteMadMarlin
Sorry, Ken. Dogs get to your heart like nothing else. May God bring you comfort until you see her again.
ReplyDeleteRemember the good!

Godspeed, my best friend.
I always figured she musta missed Charlie real bad.
ReplyDeleteWe get more from them than they get from us, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteShe looked happy, as well as I can judge it. That is all we can do for our animals. I know she is missed.
ReplyDeleteSo sad ... I share your pain ... I just had to put down my 23 year old cat .... I know.

ReplyDeleteGave us an insight into your true nature.
My condolences
