Ah the memories. I got to PI May 28, 1968. I was in 1st Battalion which had the last wooden barracks on the Island. We were right on the bay. 2nd and 3rd had new brick barracks with freakin a/c. As I was there during the summer if it went over a hundred degrees they flew a black flag on the parade deck. No marching or PT was allowed. That was outside. In those hot barracks the DI's PT'd the shit out of us. The DI would say we are going to mop the floors with your sweat hogs! They did not lie. I went in at 130lbs. I was running hard before joining the Corps. I came out of boot at 160lbs.

ReplyDeleteI grew up going almost daily to MCRD San Diego. I believe it's closed down now, so no more "Hollywood Marines."
ReplyDeleteI joined the Air Force out of high school because I knew what those guys went through and I didn't want no part of that shit.
