Now what they need to do is search the guards when they report for work

ALBANY, N.Y. - As part of an effort to keep illegal drugs and other contraband out of state prisons, New York is taking away one of the few pleasures of life behind bars: It will no longer let people send inmates care packages from home.

Under the new policy, which the state began phasing in last month, friends and family aren’t allowed to deliver packages in person during prison visits. They also won’t be allowed to mail boxes of goodies unless those come directly from third-party vendors.

  1. DIL works in the prison service and is never short of a story about which staff member has been busted for smuggling stuff in or shagging a prisoner or which prisoner has gone off his head on drugs-usually spice sucked off a letter or newspaper.

  2. I've worked in corrections before. Sometimes I'm convinced certain inmates could just will contraband into existence. Ricky, a local young man, was never without a smoke. He had been in solitary for over a week, on camera, and one day I walked by his cell and he was just sitting there smoking.

  3. California stopped that shit many years ago. I've seen canned goods, peanut butter and misc mylar type snack bags re-sealed so you couldn't tell. Either dogs or sometimes the weight or sound of the cans when shook might tip you off to shenanigans.
