Why the price of ground beef is climbing higher than the inflation rate

The cost of putting food on the table is the highest it’s been in 40 years, and inflation is specifically impacting a summertime staple: ground beef.

Ground beef prices are up 12% since this time last year, which is higher than the current inflation rate for the United States, which currently stands at 9.1%.

Severe drought amid high demand while reeling from pandemic disruptions and inflation is to blame.

  1. The true inflation rate is probably closer to 15%. They changed that calculation decades ago to make the government look better.

    1. There is a website called www.shadowstats.com where the author tracks government statistics using either the old methodology or non-manipulated numbers. The inflation rate is 17.3% by his calculation.

    1. And feed costs. Premium alfalfa is almost double what it was less than ten years ago.

  3. You would think beef would be a discount now because ranchers are getting rid of their cows because of the drought. So I bet the raise in beef prices are because of the middle men brokers just charging more because they have a monopoly on it.

    1. Except that cows don't just automatically turn into packaged beef once they leave the ranch. It cost money to ship them to a feed lot where they're fed grain (also not free) for a couple weeks, then there's a butcher that doesn't work for free, then there's the transportation costs to the stores.....
If a rancher or farmer is taking a loss while the animal is still there, nobody's going to continue to take that loss to process the meat.

    2. "... cows don't just automatically turn into packaged beef ...."

It slays me that this still needs to be said. Funny but sad.

    3. No biggie. Unless you were raised around or worked with cattle, most people don't realize just how much goes into it.

  5. I heard a Kansas Farmer interviewed recently. Beef prices are rising due to the wholesalers/processors... The ranchers are selling to reduce their herds due to the costs of feeding them. But the wholesalers are lowering the prices they offer the rancher. Then raising their prices to the retailers to make big bucks. Eventually, all beef prices will be even higher due to availability because of smaller herds. The globalists are out to screw us at every turn. I suggest EVERYONE seek out farmers and ranchers who're local to them, and buy direct. Cutting out the processors and giving the wef a big finger in their eyes. Friends, these globalists and their minions need to be reckoned with, NOW...or we lose. Food prices will double by the end of this year. www. libertytreeradio.4mg.com M-F 5,6, and 8 pm

  6. South tx herds are being sold due to the drought, however I've just driven through lubbock, north. &east of amarillo, & around raton, I've seen more small cattle herds than I have in 5 years.
They'had a lot of rain & herds are knee deep in grass.
