A dementia-stricken woman died after the California senior citizens home she lived in errantly served her dishwashing liquid instead of juice, the home said.
The woman was one of three residents at Atria Park Senior Living Facility in San Mateo rushed to the hospital after they drank the caustic liquid, KRON-TV reported.
Just inexcusable. They're going to try to put all the blame on the hired help, but the management should have safeguards in place to prevent this. Is OSHA applicable here?
Mixing up juice and detergent sounds like something another dementia resident would do.
I'm reminded of my dad, who once put detergent in the dog's dish (thankfully the dog was picky about what he drank.) Dementia people do stuff like that. Like when he tried raking the lawn with a rug rake, or thought shower caps were socks, or when he rinsed out a carton of cereal cream and then put it back in the fridge full of water. And about 50 other things that seem funny looking back but were a waking nightmare to live through.
He keeps the staff at the care home on their toes to be sure. But for what it costs, I expect nothing short of perfection from the lot of them. It is inexcusable for something like this to happen and at the very least someone should be investigated for negligence resulting in death or whatever the California equivalent is.
Starker here, That dish detergent was actually a sterilizing "detergent" in which the formula is sodium hydroxide based. Sodium Hydroxide is LYE, caustic lye!
Was she constipated? Dishwashing liquid is a great inexpensive laxative.
ReplyDeleteSince it's California, no one will be held accountable.
ReplyDeleteThe work of a hostile west African aide who was pissed at the patient .

ReplyDeleteOh sure they wash dishes in the refrigerate area of the kitchen. Bullshit. Murder period.
