Commentary: GOP House Majority May Put the Brakes on Ukraine Escalation

It’s a distinct possibility, though there are too many variables to predict it, that if the Republicans take the House there will be some sort of conclusion to the war in Ukraine.

This column has called for just that. Not in a shameful betrayal of the freedom-loving people who’ve fought by our side, like, for example, what the Democrats did to the South Vietnamese after an honorable peace was reached in Paris, but rather in a way that preserves our interests and keeps Joe Biden’s much-ballyhooed nuclear Armageddon away.

    1. Putin in a grifter. The Ukrainians are not. They are fighting for their lives.

  3. Ukraine is winning the war handily or so I've heard through the MSM. They are a valiant, brave fighting force. They don't need the US to win.........

    1. They are winning, but it isn't "handily." They do need the aid we have given them.

    2. They're winning until the Russians get serious and draft 10 million soldiers. Many times the first Russian army was destroyed, for example Napoleon's invasion 1814, the Battle of Tannenberg in WWI, and Hitler's invasion in WWII - but the Russians came back to win two of those wars. Perhaps the reason the Russians did so badly in WWI is that the loss of 4 army corps at Tannenberg wasn't a big enough disaster to get them to take the war seriously?

The question for the long run is whether the Russian generals will prefer to support Putin and take the war seriously, or shoot him and return to the usual corruption and laziness.

    1. If Russia stops fighting, the war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends. Those that call to cease support of Ukraine need to realize they are actually calling for the death of Ukraine, and the strengthening of Putin.

    2. This war, such as it is, is going to have unintended consequences for a longtime. What we are seeing in the energy markets is, as hard as it is to accept, an intended consequence of this war. The EU will be wrecked as an entity, the constituent nations of the EU will take a generation to get back to normal (I hope they are faster, I am not a Euro hater).
While it is not daily headline fodder, the death and casualty toll for this war is comfortably in the 6 digit range, and not the low side. At some point, this has to end.
Will there be any blue ribbon panel to look into just what UKR did with the vast sums that have been channeled into it? Ask yourself who gets the "10%" in this equation. There are going to be (already are) a lot of operatives in Mordor on the Potomac who are making a killing off of this. Just as has been planned since at least 2014.

  5. I find it fascinating how well our nation's media organs and propaganda play to most folks' ears. It causes the otherwise seemingly intelligent and sane to suddenly appear idiotic. Well done, CIA.
