Supply chain nightmares with shipping delays, exorbitant cost increases, and scarcity of ground transportation are making headlines daily. Companies are looking for ways to stay competitive and hold down the cost of goods in these tumultuous economic times.
Exactly why we quit shopping at the MegaLoMart, gave up Scamazon, and buy our beef from the rancher next door. Even had to buy an orange japanese tractor to get US made because the green US tractor is made overseas.

I remember the 1970's when machine shops where closing down all over the place back in philly. and it spread across the country by the 1990's. shop class used to be a common thing
ReplyDeletein a lot of high schools. well, they stopped that back in the 1980's, everyone has to go to collage. and now, we have kids who have no idea how to even use tools. let along make anything.
in a lot of ways, the EPA did a lot of damage to the county. they shut down a lot of steel mills, foundries and the like.
China planned the long game by under cutting prices on damn near everything made.
by keeping the Yuan low, they where able to sell cheaper than everyone else.
but they where not the first to do so. there where others,
and the companies here got in bed with them to make more profit at the cost of workers here.
kind of funny and very sad as the clowns in charge think we can fight WW2 all over again.
we can not. we do not have the factories, the skilled people or even the machines to make the machines we would need to even come close to a tenth of what we did back then.
"... more than 83% said they would pay up to 20% more for products made domestically." Unfortunately, for many products, it's like 200-300% more. I'm always happy when I see a 'Made in the USA' tag on an item that's not jacked up that high and gladly give priority to that item.
ReplyDeleteKano Labs makes a great product. They won't sell it to you, but it's a great product. It used to be available to individuals, but now they only sell to companies. So much for "Buy American".
ReplyDeletebut they proudly sell on scamazon..........pffft. the dealer/distributor model for stuff like that is hobbling the widespread adoption and usage over getting a can of WD at the MegaLoMart.

It's become disgusting just to try to find something made in the US. Last month, I needed a new fan for my RV refrigerator and searched all over for one that was made in America. I finally found one that advertised that the company was based in North Carolina. Hooray! Wrong! I get it, there on the box, Made in China. WTF.
ReplyDeleteIs that a giant sucking sound I hear in the distance. Once upon a time we had a wealthy successful businessman who tried to be elected President as a political outsider. He told us where the jobs would go. The media made fun of him. (Sound familiar)
ReplyDeleteHard to find Made in America anything these days and usually products with that little American flag have "with foreign and domestic parts" nearby, aka the last step of assembly is here in the USA or a single screw was American made. Stuff with "American" in the name usually is just that, in the name; the country of origin is somewhere else.
ReplyDelete*IF* I can find american made items, they are usually 50% - 300% higher in price. This is why we need to block trade from every country that isn't western or at least tariff the goods up until the price is equal to our own domestic production.

Right, USC18 922 is about rescrictions on importation of firearms and made from imported parts.
DeleteThat should apply to ALL products.
I used to buy "Sam's American choice" produxts from walmart. all were made in america. now its just "Sam's choice" and everything is, you guessed it, made in china or Mexico.
