Pro-Carry Demonstrator Arrested at DeSantis Fundraiser: Is the Governor Anti-Gun or Are His People?

This past week was the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee’s 20th Annual Ronald Reagan Black Tie & Blue Jeans BBQ, and they had Governor Ron DeSantis as the keynote speaker.

As I reported earlier in a previous article, right before the event was to happen, it came out that the event was a gun-free zone -- something that the Governor has said doesn’t work. Remember what Gov. DeSantis said about the mass shooter who opened fire at a grocery store in New York state and how gun-free zones/gun control doesn’t work? He stated:

  1. A political event where a leader that is recognized on the national stage is appearing, does actually trigger some protocols that differ from day-to-day existence. I imagine if any political leader were there (any party) there would be a sufficient history of active threats that would justify the position - and any polarizing figure is going to have that history. Just sayin', I think this is 'gotcha' journalism.

    1. Khadaffy/Qadafi/Ghadaffhi handed out AK-47s and rode around in a convertible, like US CEO used to do.

Are you saying if he had banned bayonets he'd still be alive, or is that a strawman/red herring/Occam's Razor gotcha question?

Maybe apples/oranges, since he lived in a not-as-diverse country where those that were born there were taken care of?

      Was that a dangling participle?

  2. The Governor has no control over what is and isn't a gun-free zone. That's the State Legislature and they've been notoriously RINOish about anything guns since we got CCW passed.

  3. Alachua County has a lot of good folks but it is heavily influenced by the commies in Gainesville. The taxes and general anti-freedom nature of the county government are so bad that there is a movement for the West side of the county to form its own county. When dealing with law enforcement, its hit or miss. The are lots of good, decent cops and Deputies there but the liberal ones don't respect antiquated things like Constitutional Rights. Its not like DeSantis himself went outside and told the guy to leave. Some jerk did and the second cop wasn't aware of, or didn't care about, the guy's rights.

    1. Do you honestly think DeSantis knows every little detail about every event he attends?
He's whisked in, does his little speech, answers a few questions, shakes a few hands, and is whisked away again.
Try blaming the organizers of the event.

    2. Nope. As Anonymous pointed out, Alachua county is where Gainesville is located, and as we mostly know, the university is there. It's a different zone than the rest of mostly conservative Central FL.

  5. It was the organizers that did this, not DeSantis.

  6. I'd expect a scheduled appearance by a state governor to have security crawling all over it, and their job is easier when no one else should be carrying. That puts it in a quite different category than when someone puts up a "no guns" sign like it's a magic spell, but provides no real protection.
