Swedish investigative team finds 'detonations' damaged Nord Stream pipeline

An investigative team examining multiple explosions that rocked the Nord Stream pipeline network found Thursday that "detonations" damaged the lines as suspicions of sabotage remain high.

  2. I would like to see the report on the acustic signature of the blasts. Every type of explosive has a different sound when examined. There is no confusing the sound of black powder vs dynamite, and for those versed in the craft, they can differentiate between stuff from different manufacturers.
There are plenty of listening devices in the oceans. Many of them have good recordings of the event.
If Brandon was smart, he isn't, they would have used material scavenged from the many Russian nukes we deactivated during the strategic arms reduction.

  3. I'm still wondering why the Russians would have blown up the pipeline. Can anyone explain what the Russian motivation would have been? I understand the motivation for other players to possibly blow up the pipeline, but the Russian?

The three points that prosecutors used to hammer one: (1) means, (2) motive, and (3) opportunity.

    1. Safe to say it wasn't the Russians. Any one know what the Vegas oddsmakers are giving that it was the US or a US-backed outfit?

    2. 1. They have a navy.
      2. They have a contract with Germany that Germany will pay for LNG that us supposed to go through the pipeline, whether they get it or not. So they will be paid for the gas, they can then sell the gas that didn't go through the pipe to the Chinese to sell to Europe at inflated prices. So they can roughly make double their money.
      3. They have a naval base within a days trip to the east of where the explosion was.

    3. Also, now the only pipelines left are the ones through Ukraine and Poland. As the defacto head of the EU, if Germany doesn't want to freeze, they will have to pressure Ukraine to surrender, and start pumping Russian gas again.

    4. No, they're already selling all the gas to China that they can deliver. More pipelines need to be built to China, a multi-year effort, before they can sell any more. Germany's not paying for what they don't get. Period.

    5. I doubt this administration could pull something like this off without a leak or three to the press.
That said, it's possible that the people who pull Brandon's strings simply bypassed him and gave their marching orders to the pentagon folks.

  4. I find Lawdog's explanation more reasonable; Russian incompetence and short-sighted decision making is a thing.

    1. Lawdog's speculation doesn't hold up very well. Seriously, it is full of low probability rationalizations. The lengths we go to convince ourselves that we aren't being ruled by conmen, liars, and thieves.
The truth will eventually be discovered, and my money is that Biden's crime cartel will be the perps.

    2. Jim Stone this morning is reporting that Sweden had found evidence that the pipeline was destroyed from outside, not inside as they claim they had expected. So much for the hydrate and exploding pig theories. Since the Russians are not allowed there without permission, and Matt Bracken asserts that the area is a US "aquarium" with massive monitoring.... that pretty much rules out Russia blowing up their own pipeline.

    3. ROVs could've delivered charges days or weeks beforehand. Who has that capability? Russia, Sweden, Norway, England, France, the US, probably Poland, and several corporations.

    4. Sorry Rick, but lawdog's swag isn't very scientific.
It would be nice if the Swedes published a few photographs. Those pipes were concrete cased, so pictures would tell us a lot.

  5. kind of funny in a really stupid way. when the euro's find out for sure that some asshole here
said go do it. they will be the ones tossing nukes our way and not the Russians.
while there are tons of old bombs dumped in the Baltic sea, the idea that 4 different spots
they just went boom is beyond belief.

  6. It was poor maintenance. Hydrates formed and then blew up.

    1. On Thursday, October 6, the Swedish security service (Säpo) issued a statement saying that the first inspections at the site of the leaks, which began over the weekend, had "increased the suspicion of aggravated sabotage." Although Säpo did not specify what type of information it had, the investigators were able to establish that the detonations had occurred near the gas pipelines, and not above or inside them, as had been suggested for a time. They also indicated that they had seized some items for analysis. However, no suspect has been named at this stage: "The continuation of the preliminary investigation must show whether someone can be implicated and then prosecuted," said the statement.

    2. Just coming to say the same: as the explosions occurred at or near direction changing joints. Where a low pressure can allow them to form. Don’t take much once they are formed to set them off. Um like slowing the volume being delivered.
But what the hell do I know, from some article I read and written by a guy who used big words and sounded convincing.
We don’t know enough to apply Occam's razor.

    3. The pipeline doesn't have elbows like indoor plumbing. Pipelay change directions like trains do: gentle curves, and for good reasons. And the pipeline ambient conditions were never in the hydrate formation envelope of pressure and temperature, where they might form if the gas wasn't already completely dry (water is required). And the pipeline isn't owned by Putin; it's not Russian. It's owned and operated by a Swiss consortium made up of Russian and European companies. Not hydrates; it didn't corrode itself to pieces in 3 years; it was a hit.

  9. If Putin could have been repoened the pipeline in time to save the German industrial and agricultural base from failure due to lack of gas, electricity, and fertilizer, the German gov might have broken from the US, and pushed Ukraine to sue for peace.
With the pipeline blown up, no German surrender can help Germany this winter, so the war will continue.
Financially, Russia is protected from suit by Germany for non-delivery of gas by "force majure", an extetnal force preventing their action. Germany may or may not also be so protected, depending on the terms of their contracts.

  10. it was a hit. By the US. The news is doing their best to insinuate otherwise.
