Bad extractor spring is my guess. We were still using old Vietnam-era M-16s when I went through basic training in 1990. All the malfunctions and stoppages were a great way to learn all the little things that could go wrong on that weapon.
ah, number one. first, drop the magazine. then try to pull the round sticking out to the rear if that works, the round almost in the chamber will drop out.
Don't eat pissed off.
