In the state of Alabama, everyone is required to be either an Auburn fan or an Alabama fan, regardless of educational achievement. You do not have to be an alumnus of either school, or even to have been to the cities Auburn or Tuscaloosa at any point in your life. You do not have to graduate from first grade...but you must declare your allegiance to one school or the other.
Auburn fans are widely to believed (by Bama fans) to be rural hicks who bugger their livestock. Alabama fans are widely believed (by Auburn fans) to be elitist snobs who bugger each other. I am pleased to report that the rumors of buggery on both sides are almost entirely unfounded.
I have a brother who married an Alabama fan and allowed her to raise their children as Bama fans. I don't talk to him except for a call on Daddy's birthday to tell him what a disappointment he was to the Old Man.
As an Auburn fan and graduate ('87), the best part of my weekends is I'm free to do productive things. This Saturday while we were down 21-0, I left and got a pair of glasses repaired, went by Academy Sports, Field & Stream, and Mark's Outdoor Sports. Mark's tends to be expensive, but they have a legit selection of .300 Blackout, unlike the cheaper places I visited. My wife is a Bama fan with Tennessee her second fav. That's unheard of down here. Ha. War Eagle!
Uchuck, that was one of the funniest posts I've ever read on the intartubes. My hat's off to you. (Btw, this Canuckian has been to Alabama, loved the place and the people, but haven't chosen sides in that specific issue.)
Nah. On the inbreeding front, #20 would be more appropriate for UKy and UT-K.
I'm a third-generation Auburn grad; grew up less than 5 miles from the AU campus. ALL my siblings, cousins, aunts & uncles graduated from Auburn; met my wife(a UK grad) while we were in vet school at Auburn. Proud to be a 'Barner'. But I've been in exile in the frigid northland of the Basketball State(KY) for nearly 30 years... and the Tigers are so bad this year, I don't even bother looking to see who beat them this week...
Other than my son-in-law and one former co-worker, I've never met an Alabama fan who actually attended, much less graduated from, UofA. Most 'Bammers' I encountered growing up with couldn't even point out Tuscaloosa on the map.
I will say, though, UofAL offers outstanding scholarship opportunities for high-performing students, and not limited to in-state kids. Wife ran into a friend in the grocery last week... her two youngest kids are both going to Alabama on full-ride academic scholarships.
Couple of good ones today, wirecutter.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please explain #20?
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows Auburn and Alabama fans are inbreeders. Go Dawgs, sic em, woof, woff, woff.
DeleteThe father is obviously a fan of Auburn and not a ´Bama fan.
DeletePeople in Alabama are widely reported to keep marriage in the family.
DeleteAnd oddly he was still able to father children.

ReplyDeleteGotta compliment the lass on the right in #16 on her nicely-formed camel toe. The dude in the photo seems fixated on that genital "memes" area.
