USPS announces stamp price hikes for 2023

The price of postage is going up — again.

The United States Postal Service officially announced the price of Forever stamps and other postage will go up on Jan. 22, 2023. The move has been anticipated for months after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said in August that increases would be necessary to keep up with costs. Inflation was expected to add $1 billion to the Postal Service’s operating budget, the Associated Press reported.

The cheapest stamps I can recall was maybe 8 cents back in the mid-70s. That was the age when I started mailing letters and addressing envelopes on my own, maybe 14-15 years old? Before that, I'd just hand the unstamped envelopes to my folks and they'd put it in with their outgoing mail.

  1. 3 cents 1st class letter back in my youth and 6 cents for 1st class letter " airmail". As a stamp collector back then I remember the packets of stamps "on approval". The Littleton stamp & coin company would send them out, Then, you'd pick the ones you wanted and mail the rest back. And you could pay with uncancelled 1st class stamps rather than cash.

  2. Three cents then a nickel. I remember cheating the man by reusing cancelled stamps or Mom's Green stamps I don't think we even use 2 dozen stamps a year here anymore

  13. I can't believe they actually pay the morons that deliver my mail. 4 out of 6 days a week I get someone else's mail in my mail box.
