Watch out, Bubba - that's probably a hanging offense

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Bubba Wallace tried to fight reigning NASCAR champion Kyle Larson after a crash Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that also collected title contender Christopher Bell.

  1. I've often wondered, after the noose hoax, when Bubba appeared CRYING on local and national news, why he wasn't crashed out of EVERY SUBSEQUENT RACE he entered. I wouldn't mind, but he's not that good. If The King of Nascar was still around, Bubba would be a brown streak on every race track in the country until he got the message.

  4. First, full disclosure. Do I think Bubba's a card-carrying race-baiting primadonna?
    Absolutely.
The guy got pissed and ran Larson off the road and wrecked another driver's chances at a cup championship.
    Not cool, dude.

On the other hand, Kyle Larson is notorious for wrecking other drivers. Denny Hamlin poked fun about it, now he's stuck going to mandated sensitivity training. (Effing nascar has no sense of humor)

So in this case, I'm willing to cut Bubba a bit of slack. What he did was wrong, but I get the reason why.

  5. I don't watch NASCAR anymore either, but I did watch this clip and read the article. The AP story states "...Larson used his Chevrolet to shove Wallace’s Toyota into the wall." while the video clearly shows that there was no contact prior to Wallace hitting the wall, that was all on him. I watched the clip frame by frame, Wallace was on a collision course with the wall before Larson even got near him. Then he came off the wall and into Larson, shoving him down the track and forcing him to come off the throttle. At that point both drivers could have just kept racing though they both would have lost a couple of positions. Wallace then proceeded to intentionally wreck them both. It was just a straight up dick move with no provocation. He just cost both teams some serious money and he could have easily injured or even killed people. That was some serious fucking around and a 1 race suspension isn't nearly enough finding out in my view.

  6. The most telling comments were about the White driver being so afraid of hitting a "person of color" that he just cowed, so as not to be seen as "racist" or some such dumbassedry.

  7. My wife had a company golf outing a couple of weeks ago and she golfed with Bubba (Ex Flyer Kimmo Timmonen too) in Philadelphia. I told her to smack Bubba with her club... Of course she declined.

  8. NASCAR ain't NASCAR any more. Hasn't been for quite some time, and doubtful it ever will be again. You need "pay tv" to watch most of the season, no stars and bars in the stands, the infield, the parking lot... and the series bosses wonder why the fan base continues to shrink. While there are some good drivers worth watching, for the most part it has turned into a "show of tolerance, acceptance, and safety"... blech. Fuck that. If the Intimidator, or hell, even Rusty Wallace or Mark Martin were still racing - they'd quit in disgust.
