22 arrested in massive train cargo burglary ring in Los Angeles

Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday announced that a yearlong investigation of train cargo burglaries netted 22 arrests and $18 million in recovered merchandise.

In January, the Union Pacific Railroad Company reported a 160% nationwide increase in rail thefts, with more than 90 containers compromised every day.

It took them almost a year to make the arrests? A YEAR? They've got video. They've got a guy that says he could see it happening from his place of business, and it still took them a year?
And check out the mugshots. I wonder how many were illegals?

  1. These freight car burglaries are indeed a "free for all" and have been going on for years, it's been happening in every rail hub in the country, not just LA. The only newsworthy bit here is that someone is being prosecuted for it. Any guesses how much less we would all be spending on products, insurance and shipping if this sort of nonsense were cleaned up?

  2. I thought they were “undocumented “. Calling them illegal hurts their feelings ya know.

  3. What happened to the Rail Roads having their own Law Enforcement? I missed that in History Class.

  4. California's "governor" Newsom went and visited the train yards where this has been happening. He had no idea that LA was in such bad shape. LA... the most populous city in Newsom's jurisdiction, and he knew nothing about what was going on there... And he's thinking of running for president...

They should just wait until the stuff is in the store and then loot it.

  8. Do Railway Police still exist? I remember back in the day, the big rail lines had their own police departments.

  9. Since they are not allowed to shoot freely, you have to have more of you then there are of them. 2x if not 3x, cuz you wouldn't want to strain something trying to restrain someone mano a mano. By the time you get your covid protection & riot gear on, it's coffee break time. Since it's not really a break if you're all geared up, you get to start ungearing early. When the shifts don't overlap enough, now you don't have bodies again to be an effective overwhelming force.
Then if half the people you would be arresting are your relatives....
Who wants to do all that arrest paperwork, and possibly have to testify in court.
Naw. I'm going after bluehaired grandma who might not be wearing her seatbelt. It's so hard to tell when all you can see is the top of her head. Besides, she probably has money to actually pay the ticket without robbing someone to "raise some cash".
