And?
I remember right after I got out of the army back in '81, I walked into MacDonald's and ordered, in German no less, a Big Mac, large order of fries and a large beer. The look of confusion on the counter babe's face was priceless. She understood the beer part and then indignantly informed me that 'this is MacDonald's and we don't serve beer here' like it was a fucking church or something.

Some would argue that they don't serve food either.
ReplyDeleteThe US is so weird about alcohol. After a long day I'll often have a beer on the train home. Apparently in the US that will get you arrested?
ReplyDeleteNegative. Used to take the train to work in Chicago. The train had (has?) a bar car. I'd have a few in me before I got home. Good times.
DeleteGot to Germany - Goeppingen/Stuttgart RB in 73. First trip to Munich -went to a Mcdonalds. they served beer - wasn't expecting that although I should have after being in country for a few weeks. When I got back to the States, it was odd not being able to get a beer in Mcdonalds..or any other fast food joint.
ReplyDeletePrice of McD's these days, for a few dollars more you can go to a place that serves beer and has a better atmosphere. Shame because I love quarter pounders, but they are no longer a good bargain.
ReplyDeleteMcDonalds is just goyslop. Not real food; and in no way good for you
DeleteNever went to McDonald’s when I was stationed in Japan a lifetime ago - but I was struck by what was available in vending machines. Hot canned coffee, cold canned coffee, shaving cream, razors, women's panties, condoms, cigarettes, sake and beer. Certainly I left some things out.

Dried squid and fish in the "1 for 59c/2 for $1.00" bags.
DeleteFor what it's worth, my local Bob Evans are serving alcohol, beer, wine and mimosas

Still use the thumb when ordering too?
