Commentary: People Are Fighting Back Against the Government’s Use of Drones to Spy on Americans

Americans have long been concerned about government surveillance, and rightly so. Being watched by the government is incredibly disconcerting, especially when government agents are probing into your private life.

The rise of drone technology has not helped on this front. Whereas before a government would need a plane or helicopter to get aerial views of you or your property, now they just need a small remote-controlled device.

  1. When the systemically corrupt government uses its power to spy on innocent people, the government has too much power, time, and money. Drastically reduce the size of our government. We are BANKRUPT. Stop the spending. Stop the spying.

  4. Have a boss that loves his cameras. Sits at his desk almost all day just watching the production employees work and calls me when my maintenance guys aren't cranking out parts like the others. Stupid fucker has no clue how maintenance works or the plant would have not been in as bad a shape as it was before I got here and hired actual mechanics.

    1. Why would he think Maintenance should be running production? That's why you have line workers.

  6. Some friends of mine who are county EMA and fire service personnel recently got FAA UAV pilot's licenses to be able to legally use the drones local government agencies are buying.
For the people who say they will shoot them down, be aware that it is a felony to shoot down an aircraft, and the FAA considers drones to be aircraft no different from any that have human pilots on board.
My friends were told in class the the feds "agressively" pursue anyone who shoots down a drone, especially one owned by a government agency. Shooting down a drone owned by a gov't agency often results in terrorism charges as well.

    1. SCOTUS has upheld that the airspace up to around 400 feet above ground is regarded as private property.

If drones are 'aircraft', then they operate in a careless and reckless manner, and contrary to FAA regulations where flying low over populated areas.

If drones are 'aircraft', the required flight crew must undergo medical examination on a regular basis. To include sleep studies if over age forty.

For certain personnel, random drug and alcohol screening and security clearance.

Prove that it was known by the shooter(s) to be a govt drone before it was shot down.
And what is the legal definition of 'shot down' as applied to a drone?
What about using a net or any other means to arrest the so-called aircraft.

    2. Dictators make those kind of edicts. Especially as they violate the civil rights of others.

Just imagine 'aggresively' waiting for g-men to come collect their eye in the sky. For many people it would be a bonus round after the preliminary shoot down.

    3. My friends told me there was a section of the classes that dealt with "interfering with flight operations" and all of the issues brought up by the two "anonymous" commenters have been dealt with and disposed of by the courts, including the Supreme Court.
There are strict regulations regarding flight over people, ie, residential areas, crowds, etc. The "reckless" flights over people that you often see on the internet are illegal flights by unlicensed pilots, who, when the get caught, face hefty fines.
The medical requirements for drone pilots are different than actual stick and rudder pilots.
All the gov't has to prove is that you knocked the drone out of the sky. Your knowlege of who owned it is irrelevant.
You will be cuffed and stuffed long before they even start looking for their toy. They don't even need it to make their case. All the flight data, including video, is in the operator's console.

    4. Steve, the two anon comments to which you refer are mine.
      I am a commercial pilot.
Notwithstanding what your friend said, the FAA (which I always consider an enforcement agency more than a regulatory agency which they purport to be) does not countermand the US Supreme Court. At least not legally.

You are mistaking about the careless and reckless. This is a section of the code which is often used as a 'catch all' for pilots, certificated pilots included. The FAA is known to hang a pilot (suspension, or permanent revocation of all airman's privileges) on that one section alone.

The rest of what you say with respect to government actions is what you'd expect from marxist dictators.

  7. If ANYONE flys a drone lower than 500 feet above my property, that drone won't be coming home.

    1. Notice how in past events when a government drone has been shot down by civilians within the U.S., the government agency ASKS that 1) people stop shooting at gov drones; 2) please return to them their drone.

Now why would any government agency ASK instead of, say taking at 0500 as per normal behaviors?
Because the law is not with them. That is, they were acting unlawfully when they flew their drone over private property at or below 400 agl.

Further, in the few cases where the private persons sued the government, the courts decided for the citizen.

So yes, below 400 feet above ground level (agl), its open season with no limit. Certainly the gov will huff and puff and devise ways to harass the citizen, but they do so at their own peril.
My advice is to activate multiple, independant recording devices for an indeterminate amount of time following a shoot down. And prior to a shoot down if multiple flights are observed.

Such acts by any government agency are reprehensible and the hallmark of socialists. Act according to all rights and privileges as a U S. citizen.

  8. You guys really need to get up to speed on surveillance. It is 10,000 times worse than I can imagine. This is just a short primary lesson. If the idea that this could never happen here pops into your mind, that idea is a lie.
