Robert Clary, the French actor, singer and Holocaust survivor who portrayed Corporal LeBeau on the World War II-set sitcom Hogan’s Heroes, has died. He was 96.
As a wee "yoot" growing up in Hollywood FL, I recall Robert Clary coming to our synagogue to give a talk about his experiences, how he survived the Shoach, etc. I don't remember the specifics of his talk, only that he came. May his soul be bound forever with The Almighty.
Loved Hogan's Heroes. The guard Scholtz had words to live by. "I know nothing!"
ReplyDeletePrison camp comedies need to make a comeback.
ReplyDeleteMaybe set in the future with the New World Nazis and the people that fuck with them.
Fascinating life story!
ReplyDeleteCool guy. I never knew any of that about him.
ReplyDeleteI watch Hogan's Heroes every night of my life! Thanks METV!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the greatest shows ever produced. Corporal LeBeau was one of the best parts.
If I remember correctly, he was quite the socialist in real life. But, who cares? He could make some great Apple Strudel!!!
I can hear Richard Dawson now...."Show me Dead French men"...
