Lafayette voters in Macon County approved both of their liquor referendums by around 60% of the vote, according to unofficial election results. Lafayette had both a retail package store and liquor by the drink question on their ballots. The package store vote was approved 526 to 340 (60.73%), while the liquor-by-the-drink measure passed 522-364 (58%).
The small town where I lived as a teen had a referendum on beer sales. No wine or liquor, just beer. The town had a heavy Czechoslovakian population and when it appeared that the referendum was being voted down, they went to all of the Czech halls (basically private clubs where you could buy beer) and rounded up enough votes to get it passed. A few religious groups rallied against it with the promise that there would be six year old alcoholics lying in the gutters, but failed to take into account the number of thirsty Czech's in town. The six year old drunks never appeared, but beer sales and tax revenue boomed on certain holidays.
ReplyDeleteMy county only sells liquor by the drink. So stupid, you can drink and drive but don't take a bottle back to the safety of your home.
ReplyDeleteDon't be an idiot. No, you can't drink and drive.
DeleteIt seems you want a law for everything all the while discounting the responsibility falls to the individual.
So why do they have parking lots at the bars. I could take my mower but I'd get busted for that. Hell I could ride my horse to the bar and still get busted
ReplyDeleteOh hell yeah - Steve, who knows his rights, would like to discuss dui while on a mower... ain't his first riding mower rodeo
