Commentary: Republicans Can Thank the Federal Government’s Bungled 2020 Census for Their Razor-Thin House Majority

Republicans will soon take control of the House of Representatives, but with a margin so narrow it may prove difficult to achieve their legislative and oversight objectives. That margin might have been larger, were it not for egregious errors made by the U.S. Census Bureau in the 2020 census.

Come January, House membership will consist of 213 Democrats and 222 Republicans. A party must hold 218 of those seats to control the House. Thus, Republicans will have only a four-seat majority. That extremely narrow majority means that GOP leadership can lose any vote on any issue if only four Republicans defect and the Democrats stay united in opposition.

  1. Bungled? More like planned sabotage. That is if you are paying attention.

  2. The census Bureau deliberately delayed completing the census until after january so the democrats could manipulate it at will. Goes with every other government agency. People have been fleeing CA and NY and I think they only lost a seat. Mcconnell, ryan, barr, pence are worthless pieces of shit.

  3. GOP is just the opposite side of the same coin with the demonrats. Look at how many were constantly giving Zelenski a standing O during Zelenski's speech to congress. The absolutely best thing that could have happened was to blow that building into dust with ALL those assholes in it. I fear we will never be so lucky.

  4. No, the reason for the razor thin majority rest on Republicans.
All they had to do was stay out of the way of actual conservatives, but Rona ROMNEY McDaniels and the rest of the Establishment Repubs went for the squishes that were sure to lose.
