Multiple doses of NARCAN necessary as fentanyl gets stronger
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville clinical director is urging others to carry multiple doses of NARCAN this holiday season as fentanyl continues to get stronger.
“We all have a duty to kind of watch out for everyone else, whether it’s an accident or whether it’s something someone isn’t getting help for, we have a duty to watch out for one another."
Uh...no, we don't. Nobody in the History of Man ever said, "Use plenty of drugs. They're good and healthy for you."
I was at the pharmacy window of a CVS a couple of years ago. There was a rubber mat there, with a Narcan ad on it. It urged people to carry Narcan for a "friend." (No doubt this allowed the purchaser to pretend that he wasn't buying it for friends to use on him.)
Curious, I asked the pharmacist how much it cost. She said $165.00. I said, "Well maybe instead of spending that money, you should just get new friends." She agreed.
Last O.D. I worked was confirmed fentanyl by the hospital. It took two 4mg nasal blasters to wake the dude up. And as usual, he didn't take anything. We tell such liars that they just got NARCAN, and NARCAN only does one thing. "So you wanna tell me the truth now, or just keep lying?" They always continue to lie because we're in uniform and they think we're cops. We can't convince them otherwise.
Fuck that. I've narcanned enough junkies to tell ya it's just delaying the inevitable. Bullshit like this is why I quit EMS after 15 years In the Seattle area, each street urchin that goes to Harborview with an OD costs the taxpayers an average of 65k, per visit.
Seriously, druggies chase the envelope because only at the edge do they 'feel' good. So they get more and more drugs, OD more and more, and expect the government to rescue their sorry asses.
Fuck them. Each street Narcan should come with an insta-tat. More than three Narcan-tats? No more Narcan for you, you worthless drain on society.
Well Anon, I'm a huge believer in Darwin. Therefore, it one is stupid enough to play Russian roulette with one's life doing drugs, then stupid should hurt (or kill). if you came here for "sympathy or understanding" of these types, I don't think most here are that type. A client's 26 year old son just died of fentanyl about 2 months ago. He went and bought 5 oxycontin tablets, came home and took one, and guess what, fentanyl. He dead now. While I feel sorry for the parents, I don't feel sorry for the boy. Old enough to know better but made poor choices. Paid the ultimate price.
You two judgmental pricks seem to think everyone just decides to take that shit for kicks. A lot of people got addicted because doctors were handing it out like candy because they got bonuses from Purdue pharma. The stuff is nasty and very hard to kick. Young people are ashamed and afraid to help. Often because they run into people like you who have no compassion. Then there is stuff like ibogaine that rewires the addicts brain and blocks all withdrawal symptoms. Gives the unfortunate addict a real chance at kicking the drug. Our wonderful government has banned research into. I'm glad everything has been peaches and cream for you but your callous attitude towards people that are suffering is little different than the people happy to make money off of death.
There are always those kids in school. Generally, they were from the lower rung on the class ladder. They will try anything and do anything for a thrill. Nobody ever force feeds them their drugs. Darwin, sooner or later, catches up with them. Struggling with inner demons usually comes out the same way.
The problem with fentanyl is that people who want nothing to do with it are getting dosed with it by bad dealers that either adulterate their wares or don't care enough to test stuff from their suppliers. People that like their cocaine are at risk of being poisoned with fentanyl because of adulteration. If my friends liked more traditional and natural drugs, then yeah, in this day and age I would probably carry a NARCAN or similar auto-injector. Only three groups like fentanyl: China, cartels, and bad dealers.
Carrying NARCAN wouldn't be quite so necessary if people could buy quality products OTC at head shops or pharmacies. Unfortunately, government isn't so much interested in the regulating the product quality but in crushing legitimate businesses with taxes, fees, and regulations; as long as they continue on that road then the black market will thrive due to simple economics. End the war.
Carrying NARCAN and/or an EPIpen should be a personal choice. They are very expensive (EPI is more-so due to monopoly / predatory pricing) and not everyone can afford them. IIRC, one kid that was in the same course as me at MWTC was allergic to bees. Well, he got stung but was able to continue after some resting; having some epinephrine would have been nice to have. I think there used to be one issued in the gasmask kit but it was removed some 15 years ago due to abuse.
Some people are otherwise in a deep rut in their lives and it won't always be that way for them; others are just junkies. No one should be forced to carry the pens but don't rag on those that choose to.
The real problem with fentanyl is it is an active attack upon the US by Communist China, made in state-sponsored labs and factories, owned by CCP members, allowed by CCP members, shipped by CCP members to CCP-owned cartels in Mexico and elsewhere so it can be shipped in 'kill everyone in the US in one day' levels monthly.
Want to stop fentanyl? Stop the CCP. Better yet, let the druggies die and choke off the need for illegal drugs, which will bankrupt Mexico and the CCP, which is, counting, a three-for at least.
Arc, it is very obvious that you are very, very soft on drug addicts. "If only they could get quality drugs." Eff 'em. Even more would wind up in homeless camps, chasing the perfect high. Then we can all just pay more to support them.
Why don't we just let them die? Isn't doing hard drugs the equivalent of playing Russian roulette? While we try to stop people from playing Russian roulette, if the person puts the gun to his/her head and pulls the trigger they've made a choice. Why don't we treat drugs manufactured in a toilet bowl the same way?
yeah, I kept a druggie aquintance alive twice by calling the emts when he was going down for the count. After the second time( it took 4 hits of narcan to bring him back) I told him that his next time would be the third strike as far as I was concerned; hasn't happened yet. . .
Eugene, Oregon. Goofballs run into traffic or ride a (stolen) bicycle into traffic to get hit: * free ambulance ride, * free surgeries, * free meds. But, mostly, free meds.
Maybe some folks ain't been there when somebody O.D.s and the rest of the junkies go through his pockets to get the rest of his stash before callin' an ambulance. Don't even care if they might get some junk that'd been cut with too much strychnine and killed the first guy.
Eugene, Oregon. Discovering a snoozer, goofballs initiate a standard resuscitation sequence with: * a few kicks to the ribs, followed by * rifling through the pockets of their downed companion. Irregardless of sex, attempts at attempted intercourse generally close the procedure.

It will garner me some bad responses, but I say ban Narcan and led the chips fall where they may.
ReplyDeleteHere, here, sir! Here, here!

ReplyDeleteMultiple doses.
ReplyDeleteWhy????????????????
People buy that crap for a reason: to die.
Any other reason means they are to stupid to live anyway.
Here in CLE OH any citizen can go to the EMT headquarters and get NARCAN dose for free.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone want to pay for a drug addict's Narcan? Do drug addicts control elections in Ohio?

ReplyDeleteFuck em.
Let them die. If someone has such callous regard for life. Let them die.
ReplyDeleteGenerally love the comments here. This time it seems to be all ignorant, judgmental, douches.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Like your comment?

Run a couple of hundred cally for "non-responsive male" and I'll give a fuck what you think about this one.

DeleteThe douches are the drug addicts. Sorry. Your exit will not be missed.
