Snitches get stitches, kid

Three emergency dispatchers with the California Highway Patrol were able to help a 12-year-old boy after he called 911, fearing for his safety as his father was driving erratically on the freeway.

According to officials, the quick-thinking boy, identified only as Ayden, called for help on Oct. 26, after his father picked him up unannounced from a birthday party and wanted to drive to Vegas.

A 12 year old kid with a phone? TWELVE? That kid's going to grow up to be a zombie with a crook in his neck from looking down all his life.
And he spent an hour on the phone without his dad noticing? Sounds like his dad already is a zombie.

  1. My two grandsons, 13 & 15 have had phones (one prefers Android, the other Apple) since before 12. That seems to be the current thing. I was a computer programmer for thirty-nine years and build my own computers at age eighty, but I refuse to be a slave to the phone. If it will talk and text that's all I want. I carry it when I'm out because my classic twenty-year old Durango might fail in some way and there's no such thing as a pay phone.

  2. Something ain't right. My kids have cell phones. They know we never call 911 unless there's an imminent threat to life or property is being destroyed. While my youngest doesn't have a phone (he's 9), even he knows the rule. During a storm a few months back, a tree came crashing down through the power lines and tangled around an occupied car. My kid looked at me and said "Should we call 911?". I asked him "Is someone's life in danger?" "Yeah", "Can we fix it without involving the police, fire department, or ambulance?", "No, the power lines might kill us.", "So what do you think?", "I think we should call 911.", "Sounds good to me. Here's my phone. Go ahead and call."

    1. Honestly, I wish I hadn't gotten them cell phones until they were older.
I have a friend that didn't let his daughter have a phone until she was 18 and going into college. That girl can hunt, fish, trap, sew, cook, can, preserve, and everything else under the sun. My kids know how to play minecraft and bitch when asked to do chores.

It's my one big regret as a parent. I shouldn't have let them have phones, devices, tablets, laptops, computers, or anything else electronic. It's sad to see a 14-year-old kid who never wants to go outside and explore the 15 acres we're on.

  4. To me it is entertaining watching the phone freaks in a frozen state. Several years ago Kathy told me that her sister and niece text each other while in the same room with tv on also. Sick.

    1. Figure out a way to have the phones check their spelling and grammar, and they'll get a better education in writing than most of us could get.
