First time I was in a situation where fast movers were called in my team leader told me don't look back. Well, of course I looked back. A Phantom came up behind us and dropped napalm. The freakin canister tumbling end over end and coming right at me. Fuck! I swear when it went over our heads I could have reached up and touched it. I never looked back again.

DeleteMy dad had taken Super 8 of Scooters dropping Dupont's finest less than 800 yds outside the wire at Da Nang. Footage from Hue is lost but seeing it once burned indelibly into my soul. Strong men all.
DeleteNot to mention the week after Tet at Khe San. Fuuuuuck
Guy I worked with was sent to Khe Sanh after it had been under attack for a couple weeks.
ReplyDeleteHe said he knew he was in deep shit when he called out the name of the name of the guy he was replacing.
The guy got up, didn’t grab ANY of his shit and sprinted out to the aircraft that was his ride out!
