Those are planes already in the air. It's only departures that are affected.
"The FAA ordered airlines to pause domestic departures until 9 a.m. ET “to allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information.” The agency said it was working to restore the Notice to Air Missions System."

The problem is that ^^legally^^ you have to check NOTAMS (Notices to Airmen)(until we had to be inclusive)( before departing on any flight. Without that information, you cannot ^^legally^^ fly as you don't know what conditions are along your route and especially at the airports you are departing from and arriving to.
Some years ago, a huge FAA outage turned out to be that they had only a single border router on their central network. They did not have a redundant router on their single point of egress for network traffic. Small minded bureaucrats wanting to save $10k or $15k on an astronomical budget. Rank amateurs. I worked at a company where their primary failed over to the secondary and the secondary failed because it had never been tested. People lost their jobs over that debacle, as it should have been.
I find it interesting that we've just learned Pedo Joe has classified docs at his former office. That should generate a lot of bad press for president poopy-pants. If there was only a way to get that story squashed...oh, wait...let's create the largest commercial airline interruption since 9/11...
Had been out since the day before around 5pm. Fly for a major cargo carrier, ended up stuck on the ground for a while, ended up with a nice 45 minute nap. Funny how they throw SWA under the bus for antiquated systems I got 5 dollars that says the feds system is still using a 5 inch floppy for updates, can’t use all that money for upgrades when you need it for paying bribes.
The Smarter Half was a contractor on the NOTAM system 20 years ago. The servers were 2 generations behind then. They have NOT been updated since. And this s the outfit that will control the "Off Switches" the latest budget mandated. Yeah. No idea why such a thing was n a budget bill.

No international flights inbound ere affected?
DeleteAll part of the plan.....
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm flying home on Friday
ReplyDeleteIt may not be fixed by then.....
DeleteMorning radio host mentioned this story of delayed flights. His opinion was it could have been an attack by China or Russia.
ReplyDeleteThey will probably blame it on Trump....
DeleteIt’ll take days to sort this mess out - and undoubtedly zero consequences for FAA bureaucracy

ReplyDeleteSide note: there have been no lost luggage claims since the outage took effect.

ReplyDeleteNetworks should not be designed by accountants. And accountants should not set the testing schedule.
DeleteNot that Center or Approach or Departure couldn't tell you that info.

ReplyDeleteI was wondering what the diversion was going to be.
DeleteHmmmmm, something sounds a little fucky. I wonder what they’re hiding … and don’t jump me, they’re the ones who started this shit.
ReplyDeleteHaven't flown in 10 years. Don't plan to. So I don't give a shit.
ReplyDeleteDoes it seem like these kinds of issues happen to divert us from larger issues like Biden's treason?
ReplyDeleteYour HIGHLY qualified Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttplugg hard at work! That DEI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is work out so well. 🙄
ReplyDeleteIsn't he still out on Maternity Leave??
