Your Wednesday Morning Florida Report

COCOA, Fla. – A Cocoa man was arrested Sunday after his mother was found dead in their shared home, police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to 2111 Otterbein Ave. on Sunday for a welfare check after the victim’s granddaughter reported she hadn’t seen or heard from 80-year-old Kathleen Ruhlander. The granddaughter told officers that the victim’s son, 53 year-old Robert Ruhlander, would not allow her to see her grandmother, the affidavit shows.

    2. Yeah, I recently went through similar with my father. I didn't think it exceptional, taking care of your parents at the end of their lives is kind of a given, but, according to the home helpers we hired, OMG we were fucking saints. The stories they would tell.. turn your heart to stone.

    3. I had power of attorneys for 8 elderly relatives and the stuff I went through with some of the relatives, providers and care facilities was down right disgusting. I followed the wishes of the people I had responsibilities for and their own kids sometimes cared more for the estate and the money then their parents. It's very sad, but saying that I guess the older relatives that I possessed the power of attorney knew what they were doing when they chose me. I loved them. I honored them.
