I wonder if they've considered severe beatings as a deterrent?

NEW YORK - Bodega and grocery store owners in New York City are demanding more help to combat brazen shoplifting that is endangering their survival.

Among some of the things they are asking for is to make shoplifting charges stronger, make it a larger crime to sell stolen goods, and make assaults on retail employees and store owners a class D felony charge.

  3. The NYC mover & shaker elites don't generally patronize bodegas so they don't give a shit if Juan or Jose get ripped off.

  5. If the thefts continues to increase, they could see the grocery stores operate like the high-end jewelry stores that keep the doors locked, and limit how many customers are allowed in at the same time.

    1. I used to sell gold that I prospected to one of those high-end jewelry stores in San Francisco. I had to make an appointment and then show ID through the glass door just to get them to unlock and open up for me.
They gave me the best prices I ever saw, though. They assayed it right there and paid me something like 10 bucks under spot.
