That looks like CA. I did a short stint in Orange County and the first time I had a MC come up between lanes and on the far right scared the what out of me. Just not expecting it. It is legal in CA I believe.
Not just Europe. "Lane Splitting" is (stupidly) legal in several states. I used to ride and would never take such a risk, although stopped traffic can be tempting. Ed
I hate lane splitters. While the California law allows some lane splitting, a lot of MC riders exceed the legal conditions (their speed relative to cars and the cars speed).
#10 is a walking drag line, from a surface mining operation (removes the overburden). Both the Soviets and the US manufacturers built versions of these. Cheaper than tracks, if you don't have to move very much, which is the case for this kind of machine.
Page Engineering from Chicago invented it, but Bucyrus, Rapier, and maybe Marion made one also..................before the commies stole the idea. Worked on one in FLA. ---- Page 740. Same motor as a locomotive---motor drove a generator, lift winch and the walking beam.............everything else ran off of electric motors. Moved foot and a half each "step"
Lane splitting is legal in California. Best lane to do it on the HOV lane where you typically have a double yellow line that's wider than the bike. Cops do it all the time. I avoid the freeways where possible but will lane split in stop and go traffic. Most drivers are used to it.
Lane splitting that way means crossing and recrossing a doubled yellow line, which is NOT legal. Cops do all kinds of things that aren't allowed for the rest of us.
#8 An elephant rave. #3 Although legal in some places, not just no but hell no. Too many drivers who are likely to pull into the way without looking, and then there are the a$$hole drivers that would do it on purpose. And then there are the few that would open a door in front of you so they could claim the insurance.
Re #3. It isn't that drivers don't look. We check to see if the lane is clear next to us and that the vehicle behind isn't closing too fast. Conditions are OK? Time to signal and change lanes looking FORWARD so you don't rear-end the guy in front of you. If a bike weaves out and starts to zoom by when I'm coming over that is HIS fault, not mine.
#1 I forget if I used #23 or #26 gauge before, well, use the smaller needles (larger gauge). #3 is why you keep a spare key. #5 is going into an art channel, looks like a good exercise. #10 engineering pays. -arc
#3: Although legal in some European countries center lane riding is a good way to lose a leg.

Pretty sure that's a dragline. Used in open pit excavation mining.

Big assed bucket mining machine. They can walk like that. Usually electric powered and needs to be near transmission lines.
DeleteManitowoc - affectionately referred to as a "walking moniggan".
DeleteWhat exactly is that walking machine on 10?
ReplyDeleteWalking dragline. It's used to remover the overburden in a strip mine.
