NYACK, N.Y. (TND) — Both a middle school and a food vendor in New York have reportedly apologized after serving what students said was a culturally insensitive chicken, waffle and watermelon lunch on the first day of Black History Month.
"Interim school superintendent James Montesano told CBS News that Aramark has agreed to partner with the school to have its employees undergo cultural sensitivity training."

Yet if they had some "typical white people" meal, it would be called culturally insensitive. Hell, other than the waffle, sounds like a good lunch to me! Can't win against these Marxists!
My son went to the University of Pittsburgh. On his first trip home for Christmas, He got a ride on the bus chartered by the "Society of Black Engineers". My son was the only white person on the bus. On the trip from Pittsburgh to King of Prussia Mall, the meal served was Chicken and Watermelon and Kool Aid. On a side note, I spent 30 years as a Teamster truck driver. On every occurrence during that time, if I took a day off and my tractor was given to a black driver to use, I got paid to clean out the chicken bones left in the cab. EVERY FUCKING TIME!
A meal of fried chicken and waffles was invented by a restaurateur in Harlem around 1930 (kinda iffy on the date but around then) for performers and show attendees from The Apollo Theatre. When the shows ended in the wee or later hours of the morning they went to get a bite to eat. Some wanted supper, some wanted breakfast, so the dish was conceived to cover both desires.
No one should have had a problem with it being served during and because of Black History Month. Serving watermelon, though, wasn't such a good idea.
WTF is wrong with serving a traditionally black meal on the first day of Black History Month? Never mind what's wrong with having a black history month...

No good intention goes unpunished. Maybe the food company saw the cultural grub as reperations

Dad drove bus out on the east coast sometime in the mid '70s. He said that the route from NYC to Philly was called the chicken bone express.
DeleteWhat, no chitlins, ham hocks, or collard greens?
ReplyDeleteStop, you're making my mouth water.
DeleteI'll bet the kids asked for seconds.

Don’t care much for the chitlins but ham hocks, collard greens and fresh cornbread is tasty vittles.

Oh, that gif is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I could sure eat some chicken and waffles right now, watermelon sounds good too.

Every year there are these stories of apologies. Every. Year.
ReplyDeleteAs a life long southerner, sounds like a normal southern lunch. Except for the waffle. I don't know when that became a thing.
ReplyDeleteNever tried chicken with waffles and never will. I don't care much for waffles. I can't remember the last time I had one, maybe 40 years?

ReplyDeleteOnly the well educated, special kind of stupid would get upset about good food being racist.
ReplyDeleteReally, huh? Although I could do without the waffles
DeleteWaffles go with real maple syrup, scrambled eggs with chopped smoked ham and jalapenos mixed in, and bacon. Not chicken.
