The Best of Soft Rock Ballads - 70s Timeless Classics

No, I have not listened to this. No, I will not listen to this. That kind of  'music' gags me.

But I've had more than few readers that don't mind telling the world they have no taste at all when it comes to music and that they have fond memories of this style. I aim to please, so here ya go.
I'm drawing the line at disco, though.

VIDEO HERE  ( 1 hour and 15 minutes of saccharin sweet yech)

In the meantime, I'll be listening to some Townes Van Zant and Ol' Waylon. Y'all have fun.

  2. I dig me some Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Paul Thorn is a relatively new find. Used to be called 'Outlaw Country', but is now called 'Americana'.

  4. Thank God that you draw the line at disco. Back in the day of that crap, I had a custom license plate frame that said a local rock station on top, bottom said "disco sucks". Hybo

    1. I'll throw some Townes Van Zandt up next week. I found a youtube channel that has his full albums and have been enjoying the hell out of it.

  6. Already been there, done that, not going there.
    Nostalgia should not nauseate.

  9. Well, I bought myself a little Brother stereo in 1973 just so I didn't have to listen to that shit anymore and I'm not going start again now. Once I got to Italy in 81' I replaced it with some high end components like a Pioneer receiver, Denon turn table and a TEAK 10" reel-to-reel. Compact disks came out while I was there and I recorded everything everybody had on my reel-to-reel. Could get seven albums on one reel. The good old days! Eod1sg Ret

    1. My first decent rig (mid-70s) was a Yamaha CR420 analog receiver, Dual manual TT, Sony reel-reel deck and Sansui speakers. Unloaded the inconvenient tape deck for a Technics cassette deck. Dubbed albums and (eventually CDs) to cassette for use in the car. (Ditched 8-tracks JIT...)
Now running Denon stereo gear, RSL Nevada speakers, Sony PS-X55 turntable and a little Yamaha sub. This old gear still works fine and sounds great.
Got tired of juggling CDs in the car- now I store music in a thumb drive.

  11. I wouldn't say "fond" memories, but mostly, at least for most of those, not quite gagging either. My musical taste is pretty broad, and I can find some things to like in that list. I think I'm happy that I don't recognize a few of them. Some of the stuff I liked as a kid - 5th - 8th grade - I now recognize as pure dreck. I also hated country, back then, but I've come to appreciate it later in life. I still think "The Boxer" is a cool tune, but I appreciate it differently now, decades later.

I can't resist pulling a Filthie in your comments. :) A couple tunes from way back that I still like are "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo", and "Indiana Wants me". Couldn't tell you why, just a holdover from my youth maybe. Can't argue with, "How I love bein' a free man".

Just for fun, I also like this:

"1952 Vincent Black Lightning" by Richard Thompson. There's at least a couple reasons to like this one. As a former (sigh) guitar player, I appreciate Thompson. And who could object to a paean for a vintage bike?

  12. As a former Radio dee-jay back in those days I can attest to the fact too much exposure to either Bread or Lobo WILL turn your mind to mush! "Seasons in the sun" was also a big loser.

  13. I don't get all the hate.
Different people have different tastes. That doesn't make it bad, just different. Nobody should give a shit what other people like or don't like. Listen to what *you* like and be happy.

  14. Might be a little too avant garde for some, but this guy’s a genius. It’s his electronic take on Crockett’s Theme from Jan Hammer. I think this is outstanding. Of course YMMV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVSRI27yWHE

  15. Summer Breeze and Cool Change aren't bad. But like Westcoastdeplorable said above - too much air play is bad
