Officials said the 52-year-old passenger would've carried the items onboard a plane at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) heading to Houston.
A deputy with Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived and confiscated the Palmetto PA-15 Multi AR firearm loaded with 30 rounds of .300 caliber ammunition. Five additional magazines were also found loaded.
How does this happen? Has this idiot never been on a plane before? Does he not think he’s going to be screened?
ReplyDelete300 BO. Confirmed moron.
ReplyDeleteI shoot a 300 Blackout.
DeleteNiche weapon that 99% of owners do not and will never deploy lethally in its niche, but own it so they can talk about the niche use (subsonic / suppressed). In niche use, ballistics of a thrown brick, making it extremely subject to misses to range error. An expert's weapon, in a land of so few actual experts. Present company excepted.
DeleteMost owners also own an AR in 5.56 and are blissfully ignorant that their 5.56 will successfully chamber their 300BO ammo, and then go kaboom.
IOW, morons.
Shut the fuck up. Nobody likes a sanctimonious asshole.
DeleteThe 300 blackout has comparable specs to the 7.62x39 and both are only slightly less than the venerable 30-30. The.300 was designed for short barrel systems, so is a good choice for people who intend to hunt with an AR platform pistol. So yes it's a niche cartridge. That niche includes white tails, coyote and a bunch of other varmints.
DeleteMy big gripe with it is the cost of ammo.
Anon@8:14 thinks that everybody else is as stupid as he thinks he's smart. Everybody I know that owns a 300 BO knows that a 5.56 will chamber a 300.
DeleteMoron.
not to pick nits, but if I understand words correctly, a 5.56 will NOT "chamber" a 300... the other way around works though, (a 5.56 WILL chamber in a 300 bo).....
DeleteA 5.56 will chamber a 300 BO round and the bolt will close completely because the shoulder on the 300 sits back quite a bit further than on a 5.56 round, which is why I never have 300 BO ammo in the same room as a 5.56 rifle.
DeleteAnother way to avoid mixing 5.56 and 300 BO is to use substantially different magazines for the cartridges. Example: Load 5.56 only in Pmags and 300 BO in steel (or aluminum) mags. Rubber ID magazine bands and/or size limits for just one of the calibers provide additional separation. Positive identification is achieved by sight and feel. If I grab a Pmag, I know I have 5.56. If I'm holding a 20 round steel Stoner mag, it's filled with 300 BO. This configuration might cost a bit more, but it is much cheaper than crossing things up in a shit-hits-the-fan situation.
DeleteI do that as well, 300 BO in Pmags and 5.56 in steel, then I go an extra step and have a tan stripe around the bottom of the 300 magazines.
Delete300 BO is a great getting out of the car fighting caliber. Using 5.56 will leave you deaf, you'll recover from the 300, plus good knock down power. Wtf is with senor trollanon?
ReplyDeleteIt's also a great house gun for the same reason which is why I bought it, for use in both the house and truck.
DeleteI wonder if that's the niche the sanctimonious troll was referring to?
Suppressed 300 is a damn good rifle to have around
ReplyDeleteMaybe those stories about the things they miss and how shitty they are at finding the obvious are not true. This guy may have been trying to slip it on by. Good grief, the misery they gonna deal that guy,,Da Bus,boss,da bus..
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on a plane since they started that TSA crap. I miss flying. But I'm not going to get treated like a convict.
The article states the confiscated gun was a rifle. It the accompanying photo is the actual gun, then they confiscated an AR pistol - not a rifle. As I understand the law, if the included stock had been attached instead of the blade-style brace, it would have been considered an SBR and additional charges would likely be levied. I realize that is a small point to the overall situation, but if we're gonna quibble about details ... And lastly, I wonder what they censored out of the photo?
ReplyDeletePossession of that weapon and that separate rifle stock could very well be construed as "constructive intent" if ATF wanted to push it.
DeleteIs it just me or is that a select fire SBR? If yes, that guy is well and truly fucked. How the fuck do you "forget" carrying ANYTHING going to an airport, much less a rifle?
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of material here. First thing I would ask is - when the f&ck will the lame stream media stop calling AR platforms "Assault Rifles" ? NEWS FLASH - "AR" IS NOT AN ABBREVIATION FOR ASSAULT RIFLE.
ReplyDeleteI suppose I can answer my own question, and the answer is "Never".
Steve the Engineer
image quality not so great, but that selector does seem like it has more than 2 positions.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting a 300 bo upper... seems like an awesome round to me, I like heavier bullets, not sure why... I have always (when possible) carried the heaviest bullet I could find and still be accurate with (147 grain in a 9mm for example)
