"closing due to not meeting financial expectations" is a nice way of saying "We told you motherfuckers that if you didn't quit stealing from us, we were going to close that shit down."
Living in Lincolnwood, the view here is that the 'order groceries online and pick them up at a special Walmart facility' model just did not work as expected.
Last year I was at a Walmart with my wife. I got a pretty good parking spot near one of the entrances. My wife was in the store for about an hour. So, while she was in there i got to scope out the parking lot and the store entrance and exit. One thing I noticed more than anything was that WalMart employees hog most of the close spots in the lot. During that hour I saw tons of employees come and go. Almost all were the closest to the entrance. Another thing I noticed was this one particular individual leaving the store with products without being in a bag. He'd come out with an arm full of stuff and go to his car, throw the stuff in there, sit for 5 minutes or so then go back into the store. 10 minutes later, he'd come back out again with another arm full of stuff and repeat the same process. This probably went on at least 4 times while I was there. So, being the busy body I am, I called the store and asked for the store manager. He got on the phone and I told him about the parking shit and the guy stealing the store blind. He took my name and said someone would get back to me. I must have gotten 3 or 4 phone calls from corporate apologizing over the parking and that it would be addressed and not one word about the guy stealing them blind.
We pulled all the equipment out of the auto center of a WalMart that closed down in South Dallas. Corporate didn't like a 58% shrinkage rate. And I'll tell ya, an empty WalMart is a huge, open creepy mother with half the lights out...
Speaking of Chicago, one of my top five albums of all time is Chicago Transit Athtority....if you like cowbell but don't want to hear Blue Oyster Cult, them check out the song "Listen" .....the whole album is more than gold.
Someone fucked around and found out....
