Your Friday Morning Florida Report

A man was found with a pulse and breathing after two paramedics declared him dead, and his family is understandably outraged.

Phebe Maxwell told WFLA-TV that paramedics ignored her pleading about her father, Thomas Maxwell, and left after pronouncing him dead.

The Clearwater Fire and Rescue medics are on administrative leave and have been clinically suspended by Pinellas County’s EMS medical director, meaning they can’t provide any patient care.

  1. When were paramedics allowed to pronounce death? I thought only a doctor or coroner could do that.

    2. It's even worse! EMTs can pronounce death under some limited circumstances. This ain't the 70s anymore.......medics don't need permission for Dr. Brackett to perform interventions

    3. May not be a law as when I was an EMT but rest assured if I didn't work the call, they were dead

Our service required pads on, straight line EKG tape attached to the DNR

  2. That's why it's called Practicing Medicine.
Keep trying until you get it right.
Besides, how would one expect them to really have patient interaction around their mask & PPE? When called for my Fil, they were 10 minutes in the driveway suiting up before entering the house. They checked him over and were going to leave, stating he was "fine". He died in the ambulance when Bil demanded they take him in.

  3. They apparently forgot they had a cardiac monitor. Run a strip for your documentation dumbfucks.
Hey, I’ve been there hundreds of times in my multiple decades medic career.
That flat line on paper says a lot and you *might* still have a job. Though I bet its best for everyone that you don’t.
