The Right To Be Let Alone: When The Government Wants To Know All Your Business

There was a time when the census was just a head count.

That is no longer the case.

The American Community Survey (ACS), sent to about 3.5 million homes every year, is the byproduct of a government that believes it has the right to know all of your personal business.

  1. We got one in 2010, I filled out the demographic info and left the rest blank. When a census clown came to the door I told them to FOAD, if the data was already public records they have it. Other information was none of their damn business.

    1. Yup, Last time I got the full questionnaire I wrote that 2 people lived at my address, one male, one female. I then wrote that the other questions were unconstitutional and intrusive.
When the census asshole came to my door and refused to leave, I called the cops. The cops finally told him to leave or he would be arrested for Trespass.

      Never heard form them again.

  4. A "Tyler Durden" America is doomed story again. But surveys are non-stop in the US, so our rulers can tailor their lies for best effect.

Corrupt the data, don't ignore the surveys, fill them all with lies.

  6. I received one of these surveys about 10-12 years ago.

I held on to it but never filled it out finally shredded it and put it out in the recycling bin.

I´ll be honest I thought I´d get harassed about not answering the questions and returning the survey but I heard not one peep about it was quite relieved actually.

  7. Based on these comments I wonder what the response rate is? Below 50%? Lower?

  9. I just entered the demographics and number of people in household. Sent it back. No other response. I too would tell anyone who walked up to leave my property.

  10. I received the full survey and didn't fill it out. I then received a call stating, "I'm from the census bureau handling case number xxxxxx. You need to answer the questions as required by law and all responses will be kept confidential."

I noted the coercion, and since I hadn't called or given my phone number to the census bureau, doubted the confidentiality. I quoted Article I of the Constitution to them and after going back & forth a few times, the person hung up.

Reading it, I found the survey was more intrusive (under penalty) than the mortgage application I filled out for my home and I saw no need to tell the Gov't about my family's or personal life. As an aside, I'll note Japanese Americans have had some experience in not responding to the census.

  11. I refuse to answer any more questions about the quantity and caliber of my firearms or where I purchase ammo. Some things a gentleman just doesn't discuss.

  12. My $.02, since the .gov feels that it itself does not need to follow the Constitution, neither do I. Have not turned in a census form, ever. Never have recieved the ACS, but hell no! Why should I? The info is public record, they already know I exist, jury duty summons is proof of that. Screw them, I have as little consensual communication with fedgov as possible. Maybe I won't get a draft notice! Right!

  13. If you think that’s intrusive you should see the USDA farmer survey. They want to know everything including financial information

  14. The survey is obsolete. The Gov. owns Facebook, thry just throw Zuckerfuck a couple hundred million a year. Besides, NSA knows it ALL.
