TN bill to execute death row inmates by firing squad clears another hurdle

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A bill adding a firing squad as a means of execution for death row inmates in Tennessee passed the House Criminal Justice Committee Tuesday and is now heading to the Finance, Ways, and Means Committee.

  1. Just shoot them in the back of the head with a 9mm. It will be a lot cheaper....

    1. Bingo Anon one 9mm gets the job done. Who needs a 6 man firing squad with only one that fires a live round so no one will know who the real executoner. That's bullshit. I've fired plenty of both live and blank rounds and you'd have to be a fucktard not toknow the difference.

    2. Back of the head, base of the skull. Cut the spinal cord. Gotta make sure it severs the spine though.
I knew a guy who got shot in the back of the head at point blank range by his roommate. He was out of the hospital in under a week. The bullet is still in his head. Of course, it might just be that he didn't have enough brain for it to matter.

  2. While I'm in favor of the death penalty in theory. In practice our justice system gets it wrong so many times, that I do not believe it should be allowed.

    1. I understand what you're saying. The government executing an innocent man is the worst crime that could be committed in my mind.

The death penalty should be reserved for crimes with absolute proof. Not when a jury has to deliberate and guess.

    2. That's another story. This bill isn't about the death penalty per se, simply the manner of execution.

    3. Every time that happens it is because either a cop lied or a prosecutor hid evidence. Or both. In cases like those, execute the dirty cop and the liar err lawyer.

  3. They need to auction the shooter positions to cover the states cost of appeals and jail time.

  6. Finally, they'll be able to put the so called "assault" rifles to a good use...

  7. I understand the reservations.over the death penalty in a legal (not justice, as it isn't that and hasn't been for a long time) system that fucks up - and likely with intent - more than we know.

That said, cut and dried cases with irrefutable "caught in the act" physical evidence should get immediate execution. No years of appeals, no granting clemency and sitting pretty on the taxpayers dime for decades. Kill the fuckers already.

Further, child molestation and being an active participant in the production of child porn should be a capital offense given the severity of the offense and the now obvious inability to correct what is psychologically wrong with anyone who does that shit. The only reason I don't add possession of said material as a capital offense is that we know how the alphabet boys like to plant that garbage for a nearly indefensible frame up.

Finally, the death penalty should be both brutal and public. Therein is the deterrent value, as watching enough sacks of dog squeeze get whacked in the town square will make an impression that this humane, behind closed doors approach has eliminated.

    1. There was a study done on the unknown and the death penalty. One of the thoughts at the end of the study was when someone is executed don't tell anyone how they died. They walk into a room and come out dead. The unknown seems to affect people. One may weigh their options, ok I kill this guy and I may get the chair or get a shot. They make a choice. But when they don't know what their choices are...

    2. The Soviets had prison cells for political prisoners that were so small you could not sit down and so short you couldn't stand erect. Make that the standard for death row scum.

  9. The preferred method for most crimes would be guillotine, with an added game of chance element. Multiple baskets at the end of an angled board so that spectators could place bets on the basket the head lands in. But we know they will never allow that. So, if there is a shortage of the drugs used for lethal injection, why not use all of the fentanyl that is confiscated in drug busts? Last week in Pheonix they got 140 pounds of fentanyl powder and 4.5 million fentanyl pills. Seems like a never ending supply, and it's free!

    1. Yeah, proof the whole use of that argument is specious.
The MotherF'er is being executed, stop with the cruel and unusual BS over the cocktail of drugs, they're supposed to die!
And a very good idea, too. Rather than dispose of all that stuff in an incernerator, push a pile of it under his cell door, come back in 2 days.

  10. You can't open a freaking newspaper without reading about some teenager or adult that croaked by an overdose. Yet the powers that be can't find the perfect poison cocktail for death row.

  11. Finance, Ways and Means...
I suspect there's a number of citizens that volunteer for firing squad duty and would bring their own taking care of all three of those.

  12. We KNOW how to do this easily, quickly, quietly, and without needing any drugs or questionable methods that some will say are cruel/unusual/etc. Nitrogen. You don't even 'medicalize' it with a mask. A small sealed room and a tank of nitrogen. Displace the air and it's a quiet, undramatic death- no veins to find, no blood, no issue with a debilitated body. The criminal just....stops. Applicable to absolutely anyone who's breathing. No way in hell for the manufacturers to cause supply problems, you can own your own plant (but nitrogen is a commodity, totally unregulated, so no need). No special training, hell no need for anybody to do anything- park 'im in the room and have the door closing trigger the valve on the tank.

  13. Russian prisoners during the Soviet era under a death sentence were not told when their execution would happen.

They would be marched to and from their cells by two guards until one fine day without warning a 9x18 Makarov to the base of the brain pan would put their lights out…

The other prisoners would hear it and know that that too was their future….

  14. The Russian referred to it as the 95 grain pill….
