West Virginia governor signs new carry bill, allowing for guns on public college, university campuses
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's governor signed a bill Wednesday allowing people with concealed carry permits to take firearms onto public college and university campuses.
Yeah, it's a step in the right direction. I'm glad to see it. It does not, of course go far enough. Yet.
The CORRECT thing would be to make those who disarm their customers, or the general public, strictly liable for violence against those they've disarmed. It's the morally and legally correct remedy.
Because, frankly, if you insist that people disarm, in order to order a bagel, then you assume a moral obligation to defend them, and a moral responsibility for anything that happens to them as a result of their being disarmed. That this moral culpability isn't reflected by current laws is a deficit that needs to be correct.
