The article doesn't say, assuming it's a construction site forklift it should be easy to dodge, but if it's a warehouse forklift, those things can turn almost like a ZTR lawn mover.
It's a big construction forklift. Worse, it's got something like 20 feet of chainlink fence caught in the forks, and it's carrying it through the streets, _sideways_.
But I hate these clips, because it takes a couple of minutes to see a few seconds of the actual event. First there's the paid advertisement, which is Mario Cuomo spouting BS. Then there's idiot newspeople yammering away in the studio for over a minute. Then a very brief clip of the forklift. More yammering heads in the studio. A repeat of the very brief clip. Etc.
The entire news report on this could and should have been under 10 seconds: say where, when, and who, and show the video. But to justify their salaries, they stretched it out to over 3 minutes. Most journalists should be fired for cause, but these people are simply redundant.
Stealing a forklift and driving it in traffic is a pretty good trick, but it still doesn't unseat the dude a couple decades ago who stole an Army tank from the Natl guard armory in San Diego!
If I'm not mistaken that same thing happened in Reno a few years back. I seem to remember they got the guy stopped as he was attempting to climb Donner Pass on Interstate 80. Seems to me there was a picture that made the rounds of the guy in the tank near the bug station in Truckee. Could be wrong. Been wrong before.

ReplyDeleteHad you clicked on the link I so thoughtfully provided, you'd have seen it was a construction lift.
DeleteA warehouse forklift may be nimble, but a 3" curb will stop it dead.
ReplyDeleteJust a guess here, but I'd say it's harder to dodge a forklift than it is to forklift a Dodge.

Drive it like you stole it?
