I sat there just the other day and watched an unaccompanied young female bank employee service the remote ATM in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot, thinking "Damn, these folks here are so trusting. You'd never see this in California."

  1. We should pass a law to stop these thugs from becoming armed... (sarcasm off)

  2. This form of money extraction is way easier than stealing a backhoe and ripping the whole ATM out of the wall.

  3. To this day I have never used an ATM. If I need cash I go into the bank and I watch the parking lot before I head to my car. And this is little Montana.

    1. I do use the ATM on occasion, but like you, I prefer to go into the bank. It's much less aggravating - inside the bank, I can usually walk right up to a teller and get my money, but in the drive thru ATM I have to wait in my truck while the person checks their balance, withdraws their money, counts it 3 times, checks their balance again, adjusts their checkbook, pets their dog, texts their bestie, and then finally pulls forward.

    2. I get that - I live in Montana too, but for *many* years lived in or near Seattle.

Long ago, I developed the habit of taking cash during my grocery shopping - $60 at a time. Works great, and I haven't visited an ATM in years.

  4. way back in the day i used to be a atm "tech" those little standalone machines always had me nervous. several banks have tried to replace the tellers with machines and or a video teller so they can not have to actually deal with us lowlifes.

    1. Back when I was working on such equipment, I was lucky enough it was all indoors, either behind the counter with the tellers or in a casino count room.

  5. Kenny, you know we can live that way in part because if any asshole pulled any shit with that young woman there'd be 4 or 5 rednecks, yourself included, out of their trucks and armed before you could blink. Well, if you blink slowly, anyhow--we're all getting older.

  6. I do this job today. I am an armed “collector” for large slot machine provider in IL. I enter each location, download the ATM , reload the ATM and then remove te cash from the gaming machines. Rinse and repeat. 10 to 15 stops per day some of them in the real hood and some in meth burnt small farm towns, very few of the locations are classy in any way, and most immediately adjacent to poverty zones. Lone Wolf is a suicide run. I got 7 yrs to retire and I’ve been transporting high value commodities for a number of yrs now. Wouldn’t even consider it, would laugh at any suggestion to do so.
