I've got a microwave onion cooker. For it you take off the skin, quarter it so it's still together, then put a little butter and whatever on, put on the cover, and nuke it for a few minutes. Comes out great. This I'm going to have to try
I have a fructan intolerance. Fructans are the complex sugars in things like onions and bell peppers. Eating an onion like that would be sheer torture. A single slice of onion will give me intestinal cramps in a few minutes, and in a couple of hours I'll be on the toilet trying to pass something that bears a striking resemblance to a diamond encrusted howler monkey. Just watching that brought back some painful memories. I kept waiting for the punch line.
Look up Smidge, sensitive probiotic. It might not work for you, but it completely reset my gut. It is expensive at $99, but it also provides 1000 doses. Totally got rid of the dueling dinosaurs in my gut.
If you like a good sweet onion, then googlemap yerself to the 'onion shed' in Noonday Tx. ( just S.E. of Tyler) you wont be disappointed and it should getting to that time of year that they'll start shipping them out.
Onions give me the shits so I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteI’ve got the opposite problem, so anything that opens the sluices would be welcome to me.

I gave this recipe a try several years ago and it's good. In fact, I've tried several of this guy's recipes and they've all been good so far.

DeleteLooks delicious. Admitted onion fan here. Sautéed shallots with bison tenderloin is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteI eat onions like candy. Prefer sweet onions but ANY onion is good to me, Raw, fried, cooked into most anything
ReplyDeleteRed onions, red potatoes, some mushrooms & bell pepper goes good with eggs & your favorite breakfast meat.
