Arrested for burning an American flag? In New York City? No way!

STATEN ISLAND - A man has been arrested after allegedly burning an American flag on Staten Island.

  2. I thought you were required to burn the american flag if you move to NY. You only get jail if you burn the alphabet flag or isis flag.

  4. According to an SJC decision in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989) flag burning is protected speech, whether you agree with their interpretation or not.

  5. Believe it or not, even though it's next to NYC, I've heard that Staten Island is actually pretty conservative.

    1. Yes, 100% true. I live on Staten Island. GOP Congresswoman. several GOP City Council and State Assembly, GOP State Senator. lots more GOP judiciary. Pisses me off that we're "the forgotten borough".
