Good Morning

  1. Our dog, half border collie and half German Shepard, is up off the floor while my wife is still down the road. He’s a whirling dervish until she pulls in the driveway and parks, then I let him out to meet her. Very sensitive, very emotional, very protective about his loved ones.

Reminds me of my lat GSD.

    1. I'm with you on the blurry screen. We have three rescue German Shepherds and they do this same greeting all together every morning when I finally get out of bed.

    2. Yup. Been on both sides of this type of thing. Chokes me up every single time I see one of these.

  3. Our Shepherd is the same way. Knows the sound of each vehicle half way around the block. He is a total nut job.

    1. Ours is only half GSD but she knows my wife is coming down the hill from the main road.

  4. My shepherd Zeus does the same thing to me. Even if I disappear for a few seconds to use the bathroom. I love him dearly but do wish he would calm down a little. Unquestionable love and loyalty.

    1. When Zeus crosses the Rainbow Bridge, you will want him to jump up and down and act insane all over again. Please enjoy it while you can.

  6. We have a 5 month old Malinois X, (1/2 GSD, 1/2 Malinois) He was chosen by and for my wife. He is absolutely her dog. He has to know where she is at all times and have her in sight. He already rides well in the car. At 5 months he is already 65 lbs. We anticipate 120-130 lb adult weight. I will be totally happy if he is the great protector for her.

  7. My dog comes to greet me, that's about it. He does like to sleep in the center of everyone and watch out my bedroom door while soaking up the AC.

    1. That's that asshole dog Jack. When I come home, he meets me at the door, gets his ears scratched, and wanders off.
Lisa does say that if I go someplace without him, he goes to my bedroom and looks out the window the entire time until I get home, but shows zero enthusiasm when I hit the door.

  9. Our sound asleep Yorkie would suddenly go crazy like this on the nights the wife worked at night. 20-30 seconds later the garage door would open. That dog somehow knew mom was on the way home. My sister brings her dog with her from Seattle to Portland. Her dog goes wild like this before they hit the Columbia river, 5 miles from gramma's house in Portland.

  10. A neighbor's dog would be up in the bay window with his tail frantically wagging 3 to 5 minutes before she got home from work, every day. That's how long it took for her to drive from her job 1.5 miles away. He could distinguish the sound of her car starting even at that distance, and with a hundred other cars running as near or nearer.

    1. Nah, don't fool yourself. Dogs have a sense of time. My neighbors told me that CharlieGodammit would start pacing in front of the gate when he knew it was time for me to get home. Days I worked overtime, he still did it at the customary time.
That asshole dog Jack's the same way. I go to bed at 9. I can close my computer at 8:50 and he doesn't bat an eye. When I close my computer at 9, he jumps up to go outside one last time.

    2. No kidding. Just look at meal time on daylight savings start/end.

    3. Yeah, my parents had a car like that too.

Helped that back then, the main road actually passed closer to our house and across a valley with nothing obstructing sound... or sight for that matter... quite a bit before the turn to our property, and then a mile of twisty gravel from the main road to the house.

And actually, the car still exists. My oldest kid drives it occasionally. The sound is still very distinctive and much louder than anything modern road-legal.

  11. My boy Bugsy would go apeshit like this every time I came home. He left us one year ago today. Oh how I miss that little guy. :(
