#3 - as an adult, I can't even remember how many kid parties I've been to where every kid took multiple whacks at a pinata without breaking it. Usually the dad will finally have to hit it to start a substantial crack, then finally let the birthday kid go apeshit on it before the candy spills out. Of course, there's also plenty of times adults and kids get hit by the bat too. Pain and frustration followed by candy are good learning tools for young people.
That's why I've always got a bare spot or 3 on my arms. Got a lot of knives to keep sharp. I would never shave off that large of a patch. Save some for the next knife.
