Key drug-pricing bill capping insulin costs faces hurdles in Congress

(The Hill) – Major drug-pricing legislation to cap the cost of insulin is in danger of slipping to the fall, where it risks getting lost amid fights over appropriations bills, abortion and a potential government shutdown.

  1. They way it's supposed to work is some other company starts making insulin and cuts the price to get the business.
I wonder why that's not happening?

    1. ALL drug companies are members of a "you wash my back, I'll was yours" Cabal. They, with the help of their political allies, will crush any drug company that tries to undercut their profits.

  2. Of course it will fail. We wouldn't want to cut into congress' profits would we?

  3. How could this possibly be a hurdle? Capping insulin costs- and the costs of many, many, many, many other medications- should be a slam-dunk for our elected officials, unless of course, they are taking bribes to keep medication costs high from the drug manufacturers that want to keep the drug prices high so that they can continue to bribe the 535 members of congress.

We see how little these same drugs cost thoughout the rest of the world, so why else would the drug manufacturers charge such exorbitant prices here in the good ole U.S. of A., other than to line the pockets of our elected officials?

Our millionaires (congressmen included) need to make a profit, you say? Why aren't the millionaires making profits off of the rest of the world? Majority of medicine is made overseas anyway, let them make their profits from them. Why are they just over-charging Americans?

I know, I know, so they can continue to bribe our congress...

  4. 'risk of getting lost amid fights over appropriation bills ... and possible govt shutdown.'

Horseshit. Its one thing and one thing only; whether the pharma lobbyists pay enough moola into the coffers of members of Congress.

Then, of course, gots to keep in play the ever looming threat of a shutdown.
    Oh the horrors!

  5. This is a money maker for congress re-election campaigns. Say that you will cut or limit the price and big pharma starts writing the checks to stop it.

  6. Since we fund research for the pharmaceutical companies through mandatory extortion otherwise know as paying taxes there should be a huge discount on prescription medications but no that would make too much sense. Meanwhile dinosaurs like rino mitch mc turtle gets all his medical care payed for by us....

  7. More bullshit posturing and Kabuki theater. They are all full of shit. Take this gem for instance:“We aren’t preventing people from getting access to the drugs. So we want it to be absolutely affordable; we will absolutely negotiate with anybody on that. But we also want to make sure we don’t make it a shortage either,” Guthrie said. MAKE A SHORTAGE? We got folks out there jonsin on the street, reselling insulin and cutting it with Wegovy? What an epically stupid comment. TLDR; I gotta protect big pharma.
We can discuss all day the possible "socialist" nature of price caps (that horse is long out of the barn). Before we do that, perhaps we should discuss billions to Ukraine, billions sent to other countries for trans/gay/etc education, and promotion, billions to Big pharma all while giving them immunity while they sell drugs in the US at higher prices than anywhere else in the world, etc, etc etc.. We could discuss having congress critters subject to the same level of care and insurance types and cost we commoners deal with.
These people give not one single shit about you except maybe your vote. Every week I see people that cannot afford inhalers for lung disease, medications for diabetes, imaging studies needed for diagnosis, Chemo for their cancers. These are by and large working people and/or small business owners, and a good portion near retirement. Yet we throw away billions on the most inane and self promoting "causes".
So with all they waste, this is point of consternation and debate? Dumbasses like Guthrie above will make the best decision for you? Nothing of substance to see here folks.
    When nothing changes, nothing changes.

  8. Trump negotiated lower insulin costs and epi pens which was great until that motherfucker Biden took office.
