The “wasp challenge” has become popular because it’s easy to do. Creators have posted videos to TikTok showing them removing wasps’ nests from their properties using cups of gasoline.
*****
It's only a matter of time before they start lighting them off and burning down Mommy and Daddy's home.
But it is worth it being the first one to get the honorary title of 'killed by tiktok'.
ReplyDeleteAnother fine bit of reporting. I thought it might explain what people do with the gas. Foolish me.
ReplyDeleteMost of us can figure it out. Keep working at it.
DeleteThe linemen from the power company have wasp and hornet killer that shoots a stream of insecticide about 20 feet that instantly disables the insects. I’ve used it once and it achieved very good results. This is not the same stuff that they sell at home depot.
ReplyDeleteSpectracide makes a Pro version of their wasp spray. Unlike their green-labeled product available at most stores the Pro version has a white labeled can (black and red lettering). I'm not saying this is the same as what Anonymous (July 21, 2023 at 9:10 AM) referenced, but of all the commercially available sprays this is easily the most effective. It also has ingredients to keep wasps from coming back. It can be hard to find. I checked and it is available off Amazon; I buy it at Lowes.
DeleteSpectracide Pro - good info, thanks FrankP
DeleteThe product you’re referencing is called “Bee Bopper” it’s in a red can with yellow lettering & a white cap. Great stuff, disables wasps instantly. Wear gloves & steer clear of the mist & any splash back, it will mess you up too.
DeleteWe always used gas when I was a kid. Dad did that once after we were all gone, and he set himself on fire. The bbq was lit, and the fumes swirled when the breeze shifted. Got a helicopter ride for that accident. He couldn't handle the direct sun or much heat after that episode.
ReplyDeleteHell.........Gas on bees has been around a long time, I used that method when I was 8 years old (in my mid seventies now) and it's great on Fire ant hives too........
ReplyDeleteThe trick is to wear a hat (preferably a wide-brimmed, floppy hat that can cover your ears), put on a loose, long-sleeved shirt (not polyester)--button it all the way up to the neck, roll down the sleeves and button the cuffs, put up the collar, wear gloves, wear long pants, wear sun glasses and stay calm. Using WD-40 in a spray can cover the bottom of the hive in oil then light the spray like a flamethrower. DO NOT flail your arms when they swarm looking for the interloper. If you don't move and with much of your skin covered (you're IR signature is a lot smaller--and less places for them to sting) they tend to think you're a tree or a plant and move away--they will attack the fire because of its higher IR signature. Target the bottom of the hive (that's the entrance/exit of the hive)--their wings catch fire when they exit and they can't fly--they will fall to the ground where you can burn them at your leisure. Once the hornet/wasp threat is gone, knock the hive to the ground, open up the hive and burn all the larvae that are in there.
ReplyDeleteDude, just borrow a beekeeper's suit.
DeleteWon't work with moths, they're attracted to flames.

Far out !!
Deleteyou want a BIG surprise,? use "white" gas. definitely learned my lesson a few years ago. man that shit is Volatile !
DeleteOkay, lots of people here seem really confused, so I'll help. You don't light the gas on fire. You take a container bigger than the wasp nest, fill it partially with gas. Hold the whole container over the nest. The fumes kill everything moving and then you can take down the nest without dealing with stinging little bastards.
ReplyDeleteMaking the rounds in the Canadian news cycle day is some burn unit lady doctor from out west warning people about Tiktok fire related challenges. It includes some dipshit looking kid from Georgia (whose mom was pretty damn cute) who burned 90% of his body doing something with a bunch of spray cans and fire.
ReplyDeleteThe whole "Tiktok is a Chinese plot" angle makes more sense by the day. Destroy the youth by turning them into trannies, encouraging them to be a bunch of whores, and getting them to recreate increasingly dangerous stupid things they see, to accelerate the fall of an already dying empire.
CRC Brakleen in the red can is the business when dealing with wasps. It will knock them out of the air and kill them instantly. Use the little plastic tube on the nozzle for precision shooting.
ReplyDeleteIt makes a pretty good gun cleaner too but you must oil the steel afterwards, it removes ALL of the oil and grease.
We used dechlorinated brake cleaner at gunsmithing school for removing grease and oil and also prior to bluing. It works great and is relatively inexpensive.
DeleteWould enjoy seeing some dope try it with a Styrofoam cup. Thatd be funny.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows that real men take wasp and hornet nests out with a Louisville slugger, or a cricket bat for our limey brothers. Man up people.
