Canadian firefighters bracing for massive spread of wildfires in next 48 hours

Fire officials in British Columbia warned they would be facing "the most challenging 24 to 48 hours of the summer," as wildfires that have been ravaging western Canada all week are expected to increase and impact more areas.

Wow, they didn't mention climate change even once.

  1. They didn't mention "climate change" because they didn't want to steal Maui's chance to get a bite of the global warming cherry.

  2. The article understates the extent of the damage. The McDougall Creek wildfire grew from 1,100 to 6,800 hectares overnight, before it jumped Okanagan Lake, which is over a mile wide at that point. A hectare is roughly 2.5 acres.

Here's a map of the evacuation areas: https://www.cordemergency.ca/map

This evacuation map is not always up to date, as the northern area on the east side of the lake was evacuated roughly an hour before it was shown on this map.

  3. Why am I envisioning Dudley Do-Right with a fire hose slung over his shoulder?

  4. Well, on the bright side, there will be less fuel for the next year in that area. I lived on property that the land owner had installed high pressure agri sprinklers, the fires of ott3 never came near any structure on his land.

  5. After serving 12 years in my local Brigade,Tea Tree Gully,Sth. Aust. I can only feel for the vivctims of bushfires, wherever they are.In the 80's-90's we had an annual callm out of around 450! These were mostly minor events and a lot of road crash rescue. Note, wisdom eventually came to be and called it what it was.NOT accidents. To the subject;you can probably google the Ash Wednesday fires 1983, in southern Australia. Huge loss of life and property, nothing by modern statistics and what's happened in Hawaie. (forgive incorrect spell) The point is...governing bodies will NEVER get off their arses and do a bloody thing until a catastrophy occurs. Then, these days, the whipping boy is of course,Tdaaa...Climate change. Plan ahead, have an escape plan and leave before it's too late. All of this information is freely available in the land of droughts, floods and raging fires.
    Stay safe good people! Regards,Rob.

  6. Seems like every time there's an election or an upcoming election, Canada experiences "wildfires".
